firstly, may i apologise in advance if this is not the correct forum or if i have not provided enough information.

I currently use logic/ableton and maschine.
I would like to use the mackie to mix my drums, synths etc from the outputs of the firewire410 as well as the juno and mikrokorg - i would then like to run the final mix or individual tracks (if possible) into the 3630 and be able to hear the compressed sound on the monitors and then record back into the 410 and into my daw - all this without what i'm currently doing which is introducing an extra signal flow to another soundcard.. surely there is an easier workflow that that?


Some info on my set up:
mac pro
m-audio firrier 4in 10 out
mackie 1402 vlz pro
juno 106
mikro korg
oxygen 8v2 controller
maschine
technics 1210
alesis 3630 compressor


i currently have 8 inputs (4 stereo pairs) from the firewire 410 (outs) to the mackie 1402 channel strips in 1+2 / 3+4 / 5+6 / 7+8 (which are single channels).
I have the juno 106 on 9+10,
The mirkokorg on 11+12,
Technics 1210 on 13+14

the control room outputs on the back of the mackie go to my monitors (rockit 5)
the main outs on the mixer go into the Firewire 410

this is where i get a bit confused.
i have the alt 3+4 outputs on the back of the mackie go to the inputs on the 3630 compressor.
i then have the 3630 compressor going into an edirol ua-25 external soundcard connected to a hp laptop running soundforge.

this is so i can send the whole mix through the mackie into the 3630 and record the sound into soundforge.

this causes me a few problems, firstly i can only monitor the sound via the 3630 processed sound by connecting headphones to the edirol ua-25 or connecting a phono to female xlr cable to the monitor.

is there a way to send the whole signal or chosen channels to the 3630 (hear them being monitored) and record that back in to the original m-audio firewire 410 i use on the mac? essentially i don't see the point in using the laptop to be able hear and record the mix through the 3630?

any help is much appreciated.

If the mixer has enough channels you could hook up the monitors to the mixer.

Then hook up every piece of hardware as proposed. and also hook up the stereo sum of your daw to the mixer. that way you can use software and mix your softsyths or whatever in your daw, send out the 2bus and mix it with your hardware. Then record the sum of the mixer back to logic.

for using the compressor on the mixers sum you either need a stereo insert on the mixers 2 bus (which would be the most convinient way) or you need to hook it up in series: mixer stereo out-->compressor-->interface/logic

From just looking at the pictures (didnt read the manual) I think your mixer doesnt have main inserts. (on the sum). So the only way would be to hook up the compressor to the sum and the compressor to your interface to record it.

thanks neo happy.. i'm still a little confused as it were, as i'm unable to monitor the compressed sound live, if you get what i mean,

so essentially what i've done is hook the alt 3+4 outputs to the compressor - then compressor out to the soundcard in.

however i want to be able to hear what i'm compressing back to the computer, it records the compressed sound but i cannot seem to hear it.. i hear it pre compression.

i've added some jpegs -
