I would give up the five LDC's I currently own for just one of these. I love the sound of this mic. Currently saving for one. Would love to score a used one.

Would also love to score a gently used Kel HM-1. I love the sound of that mic too. :-)

your priorities need review: mic are MOST important part of chain. i love pres, too, but my good mics sound close to as good through onyx pres as through boutique ones.

how about one pro solid state mic, one tube? lauten clarion, miktek cv4 would be my choices, but there are so many good units above $500, not that great below, imo.

Err, this being the low end section might indicate people here have slightly different priorities than maybe the high end section. I have a day job (sadly not audio related), mortgage, kids etc, so I have a load of cheap dynamics I like the look of. They also work for my needs. I have a nice valve mic, but it's really too nice for my situation, since the rest of my chain/instruments/talent are low end, so I'll sell it and buy something else like a pianet instead. Lol.

And I do not have anything to record on!

Have you got your 251 yet?

Yes. It actually came late last week. Putting it through its paces. Initial impressions are positive.

I ordered mine in Oct and still have not gotten it. He has kept saying its coming. "We'll send it over", I even got a FedEx tracking number last week but it still has not even left his shop yet!

All I can say is that 251 better be unbelievable.

Well my 251 came yesterday. FINALLY. I am still building my studio so I am going to have to go through some boxes and bins to find the Focusrite ISA to listen to it. Needless to say I am relieved to have gotten it. I will say initial build quality is very good if not impeccable.

Mine took over a month to get. Chile is struggling with intense lockdowns and difficulty controlling COVID. Be patient. Mine arrived at the end of June and it was in transit for weeks. I happened to look at the tracking number one day out of the blue and it arrived the following day. U.S. customs may have held it up as well but I didn’t receive notification about it, so I can only assume. I even considered canceling the order but it was in transit and I wasn’t aware until I checked the tracking number.

It does sound great. It’s a keeper for me. Now I’m just struggling to decide whether to keep the stock tube (which sounds nice TBH) or swap it with a 1962 RCA 12AY7. Decisions, decisions. The stock sounds slightly more forward and present in the mids, the RCA tames the mids ever so slightly and softens the top. Just a different flavor.

Let me know your thoughts when you receive it.
