I'm currently deciding between two different setups for my studio and would love to hear opinions from those who've used either or both. I’m considering:

- RME ADI-8 DS paired with a Lunchbox (possibly 2x Heritage Audio OST-4 but open to any solutions)
- Heritage Audio OST-8 ADAT
Which setup would you recommend for a more reliable and high-quality ADAT expansion solution? I’m mainly concerned with sound quality and overall performance in a professional setting. If anyone has experience with these, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on which one delivers the best results for tracking.

The RME ADI-8 DS is quite old now. I still have one and it still works and sounds fine although PSU needs a recap.

I'm waiting for the new SSL Alpha8 to arrive as it has some useful features such as individual levels and the USB.

My favourite sounding ADAT expansion is the old Prism Orpheus.

For a 500 rack I have no issues with the cheap MIDAS L10. Works well, no noise and some useful routing. Very cheap try it before buying something pricey.

Heritage audio OST for sure.

Maybe look into the new SSL alpha 8?

Thanks for the answers! It looks like the HA OST will be my choice now. The OST-8 ADAT is a bit more affordable than two OST-4 units with something like the SSL Alpha 8. I'm curious about how the conversion will differ between the two setups.

Heritage audio is generally well regarded, I have an OST 6 and it's worked perfectly well. I'll upgrade to an OST 8 adat at some point in the future.

I use an RME fireface UFX II that's solid as a rock.

I briefly had the Behringer ADA 8200. It seemed to work with no issues. Had to crank the gain a little, but a good neutral sounding piece
