Yes you're right, it was the 8000. I moved it aside today in my room of junk, about half of which needs to go to e-waste recycling.

My 8200 might have some crosstalk, but it's likely from the sampler feeding it. I suppose I could max all the knobs and plug a mic into the inputs one by one and see if any of them want to crosstalk.

Mine is clocked with two cheapo optical cables of probably different lengths, it's always worked fine.

Even if there is crosstalk on some (I've never had any) the last comment I read on it said it was a minus 80 or 90 something like that - nowhere near as bad as tape - we managed with that for years!

Hello everyone, a little update for the topic and for someone who tackle this.

- 2 Cables was always there IN(RME)>OUT(ADA) OUT(RME)>IN(ADA)
- bought a BNC cable connected between both units ( ADA as Slave from BNC - still problem occurs.

What seems to fixed the issue is cleaning all ports of ADA8200 with cotton swab ( ear cleaning thing )
ports of the Line IN 1/4", ports of ADAT ( carefully ) etc .. the TOSlink cables themselves did not have any dust on it ofcourse.

It seems stupid that was the actual issue - but i had few long sessions with clicks here and there once in an hour.

at the moment - ADA8200 as slave through ADAT like suppose to be
it goes out of sync for few miliseconds here and there but maybe its normal

I hope for it to stay okay and not giving me the issues again, thanks for everyone's help!

I have had sync-ing issues with some tos-link cables. They are not all created equally.
Strangely enough price does not seem to be indicative.

I'm running 3 ADA-8200's from a RME Raydat card. 2 of them are BNC clocked (straight cable, no termination), one is clocked by ADAT. No sync issues.
The ADAT cables are 2 and 3 meters. In the past I had one cable that gave my issues. Replaced it with a fairly cheap one from Thomann. Problem gone.

Buy Mutec cables,they are the best Adat cables you might find. Problem solved. You don't need BNC for clocking usually if you have good Adat cables.

This looks suspiciously like an advertisement. Maybe not your intention but I think you should not make these kind of statements. Sharing your experience is ok but we don't need to be told what to buy.

Either way, with the OP's problem following him through to the BNC test, if it's actually losing sync, that would be a bit unnerving. Nothing worse than discovering a digital disagreement long after you've recorded a bunch of good takes, and having to sit there for hours playing search and destroy with a pencil tool.

No I'm not affiliated with Mutec. It's just my opinion,he may purchase whatever he wants.
I would rather buy Mutec cables than some random golden cables on Aliexpress,but it's just me.

I would replace the ADAs with RME ADI-8 (or the Nuendo version) or the ADI-8 DS. Both are plug and play, built like a tank and far superior, especially when clocked by the UCX II.

These kinds of posts where someone suggests replacing a $230 piece of equipment with one that costs 10x ($2,200) -- do they serve a useful purpose for anyone?

I get that RME makes the undisputed best of the best, and maybe this is something we could quantify as the "Gearspace Conditioned Response" (or "GCR,") kind of a riff on the old saying "Nobody was ever fired for recommending IBM".

nothing is helping, the ADA8200 is out of warranty also.

Problem is 100% on the ADA8200 Inputs or ADAT optic IN [ not out right ? ]

the Marketplace guy who sold me probably do not want to take it back says it was " 100% working good for him "

I'm so curious to find the issue and not throw 300$ to the trash.

- tried 4 different cables
- cleaned the ADAT ports both Behringer and RME though its very hard to clean the port with the 'door' (being gentle not to ruin anything)

SYNC LED on RME keeps go out of sync
meters going like crazy - so many pops and clicks from the inputs to the speakers

You can get those interfaces on eBay for about £350+. New, yes, not cheap. RME is just one of my tools....

Is it enough for both of them to work with no ADAT cables at all ?
Or, is it means INPUTS from ADA8200 will work.

Reading this I get the impression this might be operator error. If you talk about the SYNC LED on RME that would indicate the RME is configured as slave. I would advise against that.

Also no need to clean a port with a door. That's what the door is for, keeping dirt out.

I wonder if you understand how ADAT works. What goes into the optical input is what comes out of the analog outputs of the ADA8200. Also the optical input is what is needed to sync to ADAT clock.

So what you should do (IMO) is set the RME as master. Set the ADA8200 to ADAT sync with the 4 way switch on the back. Now connect both tos-link input and output of the ADA8200 to the RME. The green 'locked' LED on the front panel of the ADA8200 should light up and remain on constantly.
One more important thing: you can only use 44.1 KHz or 48 KHz.

If you can't get a good sync with the ADAT clock, you can try BNC instead. But it should not be necessary.

You can use wordclock for ...clocking instead of the Adat clock but you still need Adat connected to your audio interface for the audio.

Btw,do you still get pop and crackles when you're using the internal clock of your Behringer converter with the Adat cables disconnected?

There is no way to know that.

Reading through all the posts I realized one question has not been asked: what sample rate are you using?
The ADA8200 can only do 44.1 or 48 KHz. The RME can do higher rates. For ADAT that means it will split the signal over two channels, halving the number of channels. I don't know what happens if you try to use the ADA8200 in this scenario. Maybe that's what you are seeing?

I think the ADA8200 is having sync issues, probably defective.

Although possible, I somehow think it is not that likely.
Do you have the same problem with the outputs of the ADA8200?

You could try to loop the ADA8200 through. Connect the ADAT in to ADAT out with a preferably short cable.
Set the ADA8200 to master. Now any analog input goes back out via the corresponding analog output.
There is no internal audio path so the audio goes via the ADAT loop. You can verify this easily by unplugging the tos-link cable. The sound cuts off immediately.
On the front panel both the master and the locked LED should be on constantly. And you can check if there are issues by connecting something to an input and listening to the output.
This way you take the RME out of the picture.

I think indeed is defective. I just had the same problem which I buy the unit in new condition in January. And around only for 2-3 months and this excact pops and clicks issue happened already. Many have the same issue, it is irrelevant to discuss about the sync etc etc cause the problem is not that. At first it works fine and now it is going crazy as you said. At first the pop clicks issue appear rarely and came more often and consist and so annoying. I send the unit back to the store to claim my warranty.

I had a similar problem with SSL 12 and Behringer 8200, and I was going crazy. I use the 8200 with line-level synths and modules, use a 2m TOSLink cable to connect to SSL 12, and it is connected to an M1 Mac Mini.

The problem was indeed a sync problem.

As the SSL 12 does not have an ADAT out port, it has to be a slave, and this needs to be set up in the SSL 360 software.

1. The clock in SSL needs to be set to ADAT.
2. The A/D frequency needs to be the same as the switch on the 8200. (I set it to 48 kHz.)

Once this was done, I stopped having pops or clicks. I don't know if there is a similar control / setup software with RME, but it might be worth looking at.
