Had the MTK22 approx. 4 years now. Never dropped it, always kept it in GREAT shape, just sitting on a desk; started propping the unit upwards once I noticed overheating issue underneath unit (design flaw, lol). No issues at all, until... USB decided not to work, with Windows 10 not recognizing the driver (even after allowing "Digitally Unsigned" drivers on the system). I also have the issue where the LED's on the FX panel are ALL lit up as Blue and/or White. I DID, also, leave the unit on 24/7, sometimes for days at a time; as I'd also use it for simply watching youtube vids and routing movies to nicer, larger monitors. Looks as if it didn't make a difference, for me at least, whether I was judicial about whether or not I was "conserving" the unit by only powering it on in small instances, just a few hours at a time, or leaving it on for days on end... appears as if the eventual failure of the USB, is going to happen eventually, anyway.
Thankfully I have another interface already, an Antelope Amari (which I was JUST using for Mastering). But I really like the whole front-end capability of the MTK22, and I don't want to lose the ability to have the amount of flexibility the unit offers, as well as being able to keep all of my guitars and synths plugged into it without having to unplug/replug every single session. I like the ability to just leave everything plugged in, for speed, just pick up an instrument after powering it on, and have it work like I can expect it.
So... my temporary solution is going to be to continue to use the MTK22 as a front-end recording device, but... I'm just going to route the audio out from the Master group XLR into the AMARI, and then connect the AMARI USB (which never fails) into Ableton.
If you're in a state of sadness regarding the loss of the USB, but at the same time don't want to let go of the board, you can try to reroute your master audio to an other interface, and then use that second interface as the final capture point for your audio.
Personally, I'm not happy about losing USB functionality, as I intended to use it exclusively as my front-end recording device. But at the same time, just totally not looking forward to getting a whole other unit (e.g.- spending another 2-3k on another unit just like it, after already spending approx. 1000 on this one).
Therefore, my solution is going to be to continue to use it's analog/routing functionality for plugged instruments; but just compensate by rerouting to an external AD/DA converter.
