What are some of your favorite moments in film?

One of mine is the scene where Christopher Walken's character interrogates Dennis Hopper's character in "True Romance" - the Eggplant speech as I call it. The scene where Gandolfini beats up Patricia Arquette is quite memorable as well.

Another winner are all of the scenes in "The Holy Grail" where John Cleese is portraying a French Knight and hurling insults at King Arthuer and his band of misfits. Also the "She's a witch" scene.

To add one more (for now), the scene in "Cliffhanger", when Stallone cannot save his fellow climber who falls to her death at the opening of the film. I literally had to hold on to my seat - heights is not one of my strong suits.

I'm sure I'll think of more but these three came to mind right away.

Hmm just noticed both Michael Mann. Also quite gunplay orientated.

"You've got to be f**king kidding me!" - The Thing

The very end of Zone of Interest reminded me of Angel Heart and struck me.

Watch Chris Walken's eyes in the scene in Deer Hunter when they are in the water cage, superb acting.

I'll remember loads more now......

I know it's not a movie as such, but Simon and Garfunkel 1981 Central Park concert film, when the brass comes in on 'Late in the Evening' - gives me goosebumps just thinking of it.

One of my favorites is the scene from The Nutty Professor.

The Martian when he Sets the hydrogen alight.
There's a few good funny moments in that film. The disco music and colonising Mars.

This one is quite funny.

So many, but the first one to pop into my head was from Ed Wood, when Martin Landau (as Bela Lugosi) goes into an expletive-riddled rant on a film crew member who asks for his autograph and makes the mistake of describing Lugosi as "Karloff's sidekick" in one of his films. The first time I saw that, I had to rewind and re-watch the scene 3 or 4 times. Seldom have I laughed so hard.

Casablanca, when Ilsa is in Rick's Place and asks Sam to play As Time Goes By. Rick walks in and tells Sam he told him to never play it.

Then Sam sees Ilsa. There's real pain there. I've had that happen- seeing an ex-gf with a new man.

Or when Rick and Sam are at the train station in Paris in the rain, and Rick gets the note from Ilsa saying they can never see each other again.

Casablanca is one of my all time favs. I too have had the experience of running into an old flame with her new beau. It is a tough pill to swallow especially if you have not finished the grieving process and I suck at letting go of women I have been in love with.

That happened to me 14 years ago. Haven't had a gf since.

There's a song with lyrics "I'd rather be lonely than be hurt". I'm certainly not lonely, and I'll never be hurt again. As a matter of fact, I'm very happy with how things are. I do whatever I want.

I'm on the other side of that - I've been single since 1998 but I really miss female companionship. I've really pick though and at my age, there just are not many single available women that I find myself attracted to. I keep hoping to meet someone but after 20 plus years it has gotten pretty hard to imagine that it is ever going to happen. I'm also not sure I'd be able to adjust to being around someone after so many years alone. I will say though, the covid lockdown was still difficult. Even being used to being alone. I'm glad that nightmare has passed.

This is big for me. I've basically lived alone for over 20 years, and I like my space.

Besides, most people wouldn't like my basement, as the main part of it is crammed with music/recording gear. Or the baby grand taking up the whole dining room.

Wow, that's great you have a piano. I once owned a Yamaha C7. In fact, I bought my first house so I'd have a place to put it. A piano company was going out of business and they had 3 C7s. I had my music professor go select the best of the 3. I got a great deal and a great piano. I eventually sold it though as I had to relocate and did not want to deal with lugging the thing clear across country. I miss it though.

Yeah, I have been alone since 1998 so I am pretty set in my ways. Like you, I had my heart stomped on. I think it still maybe somewhere in the lost & found. The thought of growing old alone is sort of scary though - at least for me. My mother had early onset dementia and Don't want to end up as a news story about some old naked guy being found dead in the desert.

I do like my space but I miss the companionship. I guess I'm OK either way but I do not go out much so it's not like I am putting any energy into trying to meet someone and so far it has not occurred naturally.

it's pretty heart wrenching but the final scene in shadowlands 1993, you'll have to watch it to understand.

(Also, Solaris has the best soundtrack ever composed/recorded.)

Another great moment in a movie. In "The Sand Pebbles" where Jack Holman (McQueen) is starting to train Po-Hop (Mako Imawatsu) about the engine. He brings up the Main Steam Stop Valve and asks Po-Hop to find it. Po-Hop's pidgin English is limited and all he can say is "Men stim Stop Wow". For some reason this moment gets me laughing every time and I've watched this movie at least a dozen times over the years.
