I used to dream of that sleek and gorgeous H8000FW too.

It is really fun using the H8000FW and Bricasti together on mixes. Once you get them hopefully you will not suffer from post purchase dissonance.

I currently have my Bricasti hooked up listening to a live performance I recorded last night of an amazing solo blues guitarist/vocalist. I had the guitar di'ed into one channel on an Alesis ML-9600 and the vocal going into the other. The preamp I used was a Buzz Audio MA.2.2. The Bricasti enabled me to get a sound pretty close to the venue last night (but better). The Bricasti is superb.

I generally buy gear on my wish list when I can justify paying the price for it, ie when there is a good deal going.

And you will LOVE the Bricasti, it has SUCH a naturally lush side.

Now, tot totally mess with you and to fuel your gear lust, the other two reverb units that I HAD to have in the mix were.

1. Lexicon 224X (Lots of good reading on it here, but it is THE Lexicon to have when all is said and done).

2. AMS-RMX - THE sound of anything '80's


My approach is getting gear that totally compliments what the others don't to widen my sonic palette as much as possible.

(I know, that'a a bit evil to plant the GS lust seed ... but I think I've come to know you a bit and you're a lot like me i that regard heh)

Mate you need to move fast, no time wasting. The quicker I set up this little studio the quicker I can get to just making music. Almost there now.

Can you make mixes wider with eventide?

I must confess, it will never end. But, that's our curse as Gearslutz.

Thing is, you just have to work with what you have at any given moment. I used to have this idea in the back of my head that the studio would be "finished" at some point and maybe on some level I "saved" making music until the studio was complete.

It never is.

And the music should reflect that constant evolution. (I'm saying this to myself as much as anyone).

So, we make music with all that we've got as we have it AND we can still have an eye forward for improving the studio (the two aren't mutally exclusive).

Dirty seriously though you are 100 percent right. I have been telling myself that I am almost done for how long but the minute I cross of a bit of kit from the list another unit magically appears on that same list

They are perfect for making individual tracks wider, but not really entire mixes.

You can make tracks and mixes wider with the widener preset on an Eventide H8000FW. There are some fantastic mastering presets on it. There is not a great deal of talk about the mastering presets but they are pretty damn good. Then again people don't buy an Eventide because of the mastering presets - but they are definitely very useable.

It's all good! It's about inspiring gearlust in each other.

Anyway, there's always the classic, "One Fxxking Eventide"* demo for the H8000. That one's timeless...

* This audio demo had been heavily promoted by Eventide as well as online retailers because it's such a phenomenal example of what the H8000 is capable of. Apparently it had been used for a while before retailers realized at 7:20 he says, in the most focused broken English, "It's just one f**king Eventide". Legend. Sweetwater has an edited version of this audio on their product page with the swear word removed but they used to have the original when they started selling the H8000 until some customers let them know. Thank God the original, unedited one is available in my link because it is awesome.

Why oh why why oh why. I just got the 3000 stop it already.

You should have bought a F***ing H8000FW. I sent you the link to that demo before. It is on the Eventide website. Never mind, enjoy your H3000. It is still a F***ing Eventide. Now you can purchase a Bricasti. You will not regret that purchase. The Bricasti is truly phenomenal and a must have reverb. I sold my AMS RMX-16 in order to buy the Bricasti and have no regrets whatsoever. I also have a Lexicon PCM 96 which hardly gets used in the front line of reverb arsenal.

Oh, I didn't realize you posted it before. I just saw it in your first response! Sorry! It's still a great demo. Sometimes I forget how powerful that machine is. I need to dig deeper into my Orville!

To me, I kind of look at them like two different machines. Where the Eventide excels at taking things to outer space, the Bricasti excels at bringing things to inner space. And that's more or less how I look at their functions when I'm mixing.

The long reverbs are nice in the Bricasti, but honestly where the machine blows me away are in the small room and the ambience presets.

I'll stick a small room on a guitar solo and it feels like the guitar solo is 10x bigger without having to slather it in reverb.

Or I'll have a shaker line, real or synthesised, and I'll stick a close ambience on the shaker and all of a sudden it's got instant depth. But real depth, like I can hear the shaker in the mix take a step back a foot. To me, that's what I lean on the Bricasti to deliver - those little subtle things that draw the line between a professional mix and a bedroom sounding one.

Bricasti has the best rooms in my opinion. It is scary good. Not really a thing for electronic though. I would go H9, or CXM for that infinity shit?. Bricasti does have some long verbs, as it is already said, they don’t have that much character.

I still like using the M7 with synths for things like pads or smooth background noise. The Europa preset is my basic starting point and then I tweak from there to get what I want. Sometimes you don't want the over-the-top Eventide or thick 480L sound and then the M7 does things just right.

(actually just a random post to see the 20-year badge thing. 20 years at this place... the mind boggles)

Many years later Bricasti+H8000 combo (with a little of L300 spice on synths) still in continuous use with lot of joy from great sounding outboards. Have nothing against plugins, though.
Sold H9000 in between, it seems it will be the last Eventide box they produce.

Funny - had sold my 8000's to buy the 9000 when it was first announced. A couple months ago, sold the 9000 and bought an 8000 and 3500.

Lesson learned. Bricasti still here. I hope Casey's doing OK. The Bricasti team has been very quiet on the forums as of late.

i find comparing/judging an eventide vs a bricasti entirely pointless: they are both excellent - but at vastly different things...

Even Bricasti vs. 480L - have both, love both, think of them differently as well.

Agree that the Eventide brings a completely different angle to the effects party. You're not dialing up a micro pitch shifting chorused sound of angelic glory on the M7, but then again you're not going to get an instrument to sit perfectly in a room with an 8000 either.

Its horses for courses , Bricasti is a very lush transparent expensive sounding reverb , the H8000 is a very lush transparent expensive sounding multi fx unit .

Ones kind of like a cathedral on earth , one a interdimensional portal into infinite space .

Ha ha …started this in 2013 and still loving my H8000 and M7.
Wow though have I added some additional reverbs since then. Who knew this addiction would take over!

But yeah it’s nice to own the M7 and H8000.
