Low-end LDCs that aren't "bright?"

Reading between the lines I don't think bill5 set a budget of $250 because it's all the money he has in the world and is desperately trying to save cash - I think he genuinely wants an example of a less harsh sounding LDC below $250 out of interest in the subject. I...

CAD M179 vs. Warm WA14

...and I really like) and a few cheap LDCs including an MXL960 tube mic, and a pair of MXL R144 ribbons. I dislike boosted highs - more into vintagey sounds. Has anyone tried both? I’m leaning towards the WA14s despite the higher cost and the fact the M179 has a great rep… but I’m interested...
