Roland PG-Series Programmers are dedicated devices designed to control and edit
the sound parameters of compatible products. They can be used for easy design
of new sounds and patches. The PG-Series Programmers front panels offers an
extended palette of faders and knobs. These manipulate the sound parameters by
sending SYSEX messages in real time through the MIDI OUT jack of the Programmer
to the MIDI IN jack (or to a dedicated input) of the keyboard or sound module.
Here is a list of PG-Series Programmers and their compatible units:
The PG-10 Programmer is designed for use with D-5, D-10, D-20, D-110 and GR-50.
The PG-200 Programmer is designed for use with JX-3P, GR-700, MKS-30.
The PG-300 Programmer is designed for use with ALPHA JUNO-1/2 and MKS-50.
The PG-800 Programmer is designed for use with JX-8P, JX-10, MKS-70.
The PG-1000 Programmer is designed for use with D-50 and D-550.

Please note that PG-Series Programmers are dedicated devices which means they
will work only with compatible units listed on this page.
As far as I know, the Colin Fraser upgraded eeprom lets you just exchange nothing but whole sys-ex dumps through a M64-C. If you have a PG-800 you can easily program Tones but no sys-ex messages come out from MIDI OUT port.
Just scored a PG800 for $340 which I think is a great deal. I almost was able to snag a PG1000 for my D50 at near the same amount but was too slow on the draw and someone else got it. Next time, I guess! I'm happy nonetheless.
I wish they could make one for the JX8P (hardware version). I'm still amazed no one has done one that looks and is the correct colour of the PG-800. These look so much better.
