What new possibilities? I was able to record 24 channels of audio at 96/24 on an Antelope Orion over usb2.0 many years ago all day long without a hitch with no latency issues. Would the audio sound better over usb3? No. Would the musicians play better? No. Would the band sell more records? Nope....
Use 10 from desk to tape. 6 is good for a path from tape to desk. (unbal to bal) BTW, leaving negative leg floating at output is not a special thing only in dc-coupled outs. It is a good thing to do with almost all active electronically balanced outputs, except those "electronic transformer"-style outputs, aka "Quasi-floating balanced...
