The ART Pro-VLA II is a tube driven Vactrol-based compressor/leveling amplifier designed for tracking, mixing, mastering, live sound, or broadcast situations. By using an opto-electronic design, (as opposed to a more typical VCA driven level detection circuit) the Pro-VLA II allows more compression to be added to an audio source with a more natural, musical sounding output and virtually transparent dynamic leveling. This VCA-less design coupled with a 12AT7 vacuum tube in the gain stage makes the Pro-VLA II an ideal dynamic control device.

...your 2 bus. I like the tried and true Art VLA for this job. Just remember to set it minimally and with a slow attack and long release time. Your tracks will have some character and juice without trying to drive the Mackie hard. Alternatively an old Aphex 700 multiband limiter can do nice...
...but I'd like to hear if you think I'm wrong. Recently, I watched a video where an engineer recommended the ART Pro VLA II (modified). He said it's stereo, so you can run anything through it, but it's also quite versatile and transparent, which works on pretty much anything! I'm wondering, would it be a...
The Art PRO VLA II is an opto-compressor stuffed full of op amps and single tube for "colour". The specified tube is a 12AT7 double triode run from a low HT voltage supply (48V) . The first triode is a regular common cathode stage followed by the second triode configured as a...
