Improvements
Added five new machines: SY CHIP, SY RAW, BD ACOUSTIC, SD ACOUSTIC, and HH LAB.

Added an Euclidean mode for the sequencer.

You can now save a Sound from a specific trig on the sequencer, complete with its sound- and parameter locks applied.

Added the possibility to set a specific number of sequencer steps as record length in the sampler, resulting in loops with the exact length.

Added pad scales and fold functionality for when playing the PADS in CHROMATIC mode.

Implemented functionality that makes it possible to loop selected pattern pages.

Added the square waveform as a parameter value for the WAV parameter in the BD SHARP machine.

The BT CLASSIC machine now has a new PITCH ENVELOPE parameter.

Added two new PULSE WIDTH parameters for the CB CLASSIC and CB METALLIC machines.

Added slew functionality to the RND waveform for the LFOs. When RND is selected for the WAV parameter, the SPH parameter now sets the amount of slew.

[MKII] Added an LED brightness setting parameter in GLOBAL SETTINGS > SYSTEM.

It is now possible to see which PARAMETER PAGES contain parameters with parameter locks. When pressing and holding specific trig in STEP RECORDING mode, the [PARAMETER] keys that contain parameters with locks light up.

Improved oscillator tuning by adding new calibration functionality.

Implemented the possibility of generating a random name from the naming screen when naming a Sound or a pattern.

The NOTE parameter on the TRIG page now shows the note value and the number of semitones in the screen UI.

Improved the naming of the DUAL VCO, IMPULSE, and NOISE GEN machines by adding machine type group naming. The new names are SY DUAL VCO, UT IMPULSE, and UT NOISE.

The sample STA and END parameters are now high resolution. It is also now possible to snap to integers for the STA and END parameters. This, together with now showing true integrers in the display, makes it easier to find the exact start and end points in samples, especially in longer samples such as sample chains.

Added the functionality that when selecting an empty sample slot and then pressing [YES], now opens the +DRIVE sample list.

Improved the screen UI and navigation for the machine selection list and the Sound Manager.

Several analog machines are now scaled in semitones and with high resolution.

It is now possible to also click DATA ENTRY KNOB D to assign a sample from the sample list that is opened when accessing the SMP parameter on the SAMPLE page.

[MKII] Implemented a new LED boot sequence.

Implemented minor improvements of the LED color scheme to better harmonize between different devices of the product line.

Bug fixes
Ringing notes generated unexpected tones when browsing machines.

Kit sysex dump caused the samples to lose their assignment. Reloading the kit from the sysex dump, resulted in the kits failing to locate and assign the samples correctly.

Under some circumstances, earlier made monitoring settings were not cleared and reset when creating a new project.

There were sometimes unexpected clicks at the start of notes due to the filter envelope behavior.

[MKII] Sounds not compatible with the active track were not indicated correctly when browsing the Sound pool list.

Sample assignments were not kept when copying kits from one project to another.

Undoing a page paste operation could cause all parameters to be set to the minimum value.

Occasionally, after saving a project in the PROJECT menu to a specific slot, the used slot was not visible in the list of projects.

So am I the only one here who updated? My calibration is still running for another 83 minutes, but am really keen on digging into things when it finally finishes

Impressive, can’t wait to update

Just finished calibrating my MKI and wanted to post a heads up - Calibrating the Rytm MIGHT change the way some of your existing patterns sound! So if you have something super critical and you don't want to mess it up, at least multitrack it to your DAW via overbridge first before running the calibration!

I got lucky, my most important patterns did not change.. but several not-so-important ones now sound slightly different, would require dialing in the sounds again

Getting late, so will need to get back to trying out the new goodies tomorrow.. If you're impatient, maybe just skip the recalibration? But just know that things will not sound exactly in tune until you do.

Very excited to see this and give it a whirl. Everyone in my house is knock down drag out sick right now and this is a little sliver of great news/happiness that is most welcome!

My machine feels like it's stuck. I've been on a "Rebooting" screen, with a scroll bar at the bottom that is not moving. It says "OS Upgrade Success"

the readme says it will reboot on its own so i don't want to mess with it, but it sure seems like it's locked up and doing nothing right now....

Anyone else experience this?

Updated, calibrated, and enjoying this update to the fullest.

Maybe I can get to it tomorrow morning. Seems like a great upgrade.

Updated, waiting on the 2.5 hour calibration, was not expecting that length of time but anxious to dig in. Just received an AcidRain Tech Constellation for my Eurorack, and really liking sequencing drums with Euclidean patterns. The Analog Rytm update was a nice surprise and can't wait to try the Euclidean sequencing, as I really think I like this better for patterns then XOX style.

As an FYI my reboot screen did time out I believe. I manually turned my machine off and back on and everything was fine. Just finished playing for about 30 minutes after the calibration finished. I mostly spent time with the new machines and the scale thing. The new HH Lab is not doing it for me yet, but the other four are pretty frickin great, real kudos! The layout of the scale, how that changes the pads, is kind of clunky, but it still works well enough and it’s a welcome addition and one I was really excited about.

I always thought the dual VCO was cool but kind of unusable. By itself it was rad and gnarly, but next to my actual analog synths it stuck out like a sore thumb. The new melodic machines sound like they might very well be usable in a broader context.

Did not see this coming.

this update makes Rytm a totally new expanded machine

Been testing out the new machines and.. I think I finally figured out what always bummed me out about the Rytm. The high end is seriously cramped.. This is easy to test with samples, take a moderately bright sample that you know very well, import it to the Rytm, and any sizzle/air the sample might have had disappears!

It has been a long time since I last used my Rytm, so the difference in how samples sound through it vs my newest drum machine ( = drumlogue) is significant

Now I realize why I've always struggled with my Rytm.. the cramped high end makes it hard for getting stuff to sound "right", if that makes sense.. boosting the edge of the cramped hf response just brings out sibilance, there is no way to reach the 10k "air" region in a controlled way

Not sure if this issue is only present on the MKI..

The new features are cool and all, just feeling bummed about my discovery.. Taking the Rytm to my project cave later, maybe I'll feel better about it when I hook it up to the PA

Elektron are the kings of updates. What a great company. I may finally get Rytm myself.

I think I know what you mean. I don’t use my rytm much but I’ll have to pay close attention to this phenomenon. For me, the unit is more of a groovebox than anything with a distinct coloration. I made a few beats on it that rattle my sub. I love the analog distortion and compression. Not gonna get rid of it any time soon because it’s a character machine.

This is known issue and I think one of the reasons they made mk2, I hated my octatrack boxy sound and got mk2 of rytm and octatrack when they were out

Dusted mine off and updated it. Breathed a whole new life into it. My only gripe was the poor chromatic scaling which has been an issue forever. I own several drum computers and when I get tired of the limitations of one, I chose a different one to focus on for a while. So far, I'm digging the scaling in chromatic mode. For me the limitations are what make it fun. Figuring out workarounds. I find that I like the machines I own that have digital control of analog parameters the most rewarding. The AR mk1 and Alpha Base both have had a steep learning curve, but sonically are way more diverse than my nava 909 and yocto 808. In a nutshell, for me it's a whole new machine now. And that's fun.

The Rytm is an awesome machine. If I had to get rid of all my hardware except one box, I'd be keeping the Rytm. Well, actually, I have 2 of them

Is it really? Can you point me to a thread or an article talking about the sonic differences of Rytm MKI vs MKII? If there indeed is a discernible sonic difference between MKI & MKII, I am upgrading to a MKII.. I've always been on the fence as I thought the only differences were in the sampling dept (and its a costly upgrade! )

Another thing to note - seems like Elektron messed up the Overbridge 2.7.1 update somehow. The new OB2 will not install on old Mac OS machines despite Elektrons documentation claiming it should work on 10.13 and newer. Elektron is aware of the issue and is looking into it, so stay tuned

Me? I'm stuck in my project cave, upgrading MacOS to Monterey just to run OB2 with 1.7.0

So far I am really impressed with the SD Acoustic and the two new synth voices. I spent a few minutes with the new sounds in my normal studio environment this morning instead in bed with headphones.

As I thought, these two new synth voices are much more usable than the old Dual VCO. Honestly, they don't sound out of place at all playing alongside a P6 and a minimoog and a SH101 in a quick little techno jam. They still have a similar low end "thud" even on notes that would be in the middle of a keyboard, but it feels less pronounced and not as in the way. But the overall sound and level of control is great, and I wouldn't hesitate to use one in a track alongside one of those much more expensive, more traditional instruments.

Haven't jelled with the BD Acoustic or the new HH engine but I'll give them another chance soon. Haven't explored any of the new functionality yet either, which I'm excited to try.

Also RE: running "dull" or whatever, I haven't really noticed this. Just ran some sample from mars 808 samples in my rytm and the same samples in ableton's drum rack and the sounds was basically identical, if i had spent the time to level match each sample I'm pretty sure i could have gotten them to null.

MacOS updated to Monterey and got OB 2.7.1 finally working!

I need to examine this hf cramping more analytically soon, now that I have OB working again in my project cave, it'll be easier to compare test files and record them into RX for spectral analysis.. Should be a simple case of making a sample with full spectrum noise, uploading it in via transfer, and recording it back from a voice both via line out & OB and comparing the diffs

but that can wait for now! Spent my last 30 mins crafting a beat on the PA - The biggest thing for me personally in 1.7.0 is the new hihat machine <3 Now them damn synthetic hats dont annoy me anymore Did some googling esrlier to find freq points for the 6 oscs and found this screenshot, tweaked to taste from there

Installed the new update earlier this evening, only played around with it a little, looking forward to exploring the new features. Very cool.

I previously had a mki and a few years back I sold it and got a mkii. To my ears there was a very noticeable difference in sound quality. I felt the same way as you with the mki it seemed a bit dull sounding but all this went away with the mkii.

Do you think the differences between mk1 and mk2 could be calibration?

I seem to recall some debate about this when the mk2 came out with some people saying they sounded the same…

I sold my mk1 because it sounded way too dark for my liking. Never considered the mk2 because of this.

This should be easy enough to test on both marks, we just need a shared sample and someone with a MKII can record the same sample theough their MKII, then we compare notes

Better yet record in overbridge so interface and signal chain differences are eliminated - does that work with the mk1?

Sure it does. I was thinking to record both via line out using a cable, as well as recording digitally via OB2, this way we can also see if there are significant sonic differences between OB2 & the analog outs (I'm guessing they will sound the same tho but might as well make sure)
