On the heels of the CPM DS-2 drone synth, Dubreq/Stylophone has announced the next in the CPM series, the CPM DF-8 Compact Portable Modular Analog Dynamic Multifilter.

A rundown of the features (compiled by me):

Dual filter channels with two filter types in each
2045 24db LPF filter recreation (I'm guessing 2045 refers to SSM2045?)
Proprietary GEN R-8 12db multimode filter (LP, HP, BP, Notch)
The two filter types can be combined in different ways
Full ADSR envelopes with multiple trigger modes, looping AR mode, and Linear/Exponential switches
White Noise sources
VCAs controllable by the envelopes
Sample & Hold modulation source can also provide noise as modulation
PT2399 Delay

By itself the noise can be used as a sound source, or (presumably) tones can be generated by self oscillating the filters. But it seems this unit is designed to work in conjunction with the DS-2 drone synth to make a fully capable Eurorack compatible analog synth voices (or 2 voices).

Will it be at NAMM? Really itching to see this in action, on its own and with assorted sound sources pumped in.

This thing can make all sorts of sci-fi space sound effects, from laser blasters to explosions to bleepity robot things. Having looping envelopes that can feed the sample & hold makes for some cool capabilities, and that’s without even patching it to anything.

I already enjoy making ethereal bubbly soundscapes and falling-star sounds with the DS-2, I could really go to town with this thing.

Maybe I'm missing it but there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the gain going into the filters and that seems like the one big omission for me here, for driving the filters or bringing line level signals to modular levels (I'm assuming this expects modular levels).

This has been bugging me for a while but in their DF-8 renders they're using all over the place, the sync in is a knob instead of an input, which makes no sense, seemingly a carry over from the DS-2

The hardware prototype has a proper jack in however.

Old school, reminds me of KORG. Self oscillation will drill holes into your teeth.

2045 were used in a bunch of places, here's a notable one for 90s heads:

Having two contrasting filters like that is one of the big reasons why I'm interested in this, makes it a lot more flexible. You typically only get one flavor to play with in these type of boxes.

Any word on price for this baby?

Final price is unknown but should be similar to the DS-2 which is $279.00 USD.

They're aiming for this to be available this autumn.
