Chiming in with the likely replacement of my system 8 with the super 6 (shared decisions I suspect) I have Diva and love it and may well go in the box ie repro for my prophet itch. I have a trash can and so no problems running a few select plugins - just a thought and slightly off topic.

Out of curiosity, why would you go into it saying "I want a DCO synth" instead of looking at diff synths and seeing which one gels with you sound-wise and interface wise?

Modern stable VCOs sound and act a lot like DCOs. There are also really incredible desktop synths like the Novation Peak that aren't DCO, but can cover the territory and then some.

I've never really thought of DCO bringing anything truly unique to the table sound-wise. Back in the day, it was created just to provide more stable tuning without the (at the time) hated VCO drift that we all seem to look for today.

BTW, the Analog Four is a fun box, and sounds great. The new one is even nicer. Also has CV outputs so you can sequence a limited amount of modular or other CV-controlled gear. I wouldn't buy the Rytm expecting it to be a poly. You can hack with it, but first and foremost, it's a drum machine.

I'm sure the rev2 is great, I would like one myself for similar reasons

My previous comments still stand with my frustrations, but even with all those quirks I would still consider getting a Rev2 again one day for that cheeky little buzzy filter.

Ultimately, the Rev2 does things that my other hardware synths don’t do but at the time I think
I was expecting it to be the be all and end all of synths for me. Which it isn’t, and that’s what frustrated me. As I’m maturing in my synth journey though, I’m learning that it’s the little differences that matter.

Funny, the first demo of the Super 6 did remind me of the System 8. Subsequent demos show that it diverges pretty fast. Will you miss the FM and other waveforms in the native engine?

The Super 6 does look really sweet to me... but I don’t quite know how I’d fit it unless I get some new furniture and a place to put it.

I guess I associate DCOs with a sharper more buzzy kind of sound, where VCOs seem to sound a bit rounder. This has been my experience but mostly with modern stuff, though I did have a 106 and a Poly 800 back in the day. I guess I’m basing that on the DCOs in the Analog Four, Prophet 08, MoPho, Evolver (I know the last three are the same DCOs.

My thoughts are based on pretty limited anecdotal evidence, but for sh!ts and giggles I went and listened to all the square and sawtooth waves of all my synths. It’s surprising how much variance there is between the analog ones, but the digital ones (Pro 2, 002, Peak) sounded really similar to me. The REV2 definitely had a different tone than any other analog and not like the digital ones either.

I did have an Analog Four and I do kick myself for getting rid of it. I loved it’s weird vibe. I seriously considered it, but in the end I knew that what I could do with 16 voices and two layers would be more interesting. All the other tricks the Analog Four does, not counting its sequencer, are things I can do with other instruments I have. So I went REV2.

(They mean corn and corn syrup cereal) I’m really liking it and I know that I’m not going to get rid of it, but I’m also glad it’s not my only analog poly. It’s got that bright effervescent sound and a ton of modulation and two layers of 8 voices. It’s really quite something. I guess if you expect it to sound like a Prophet 5 you’ll be sad, but I never thought that.
