Actually, it is. It's two 12dB state-variable low pass filters connected back to back inside of an IR3R05 chip. Attached is directly from the original service manual:

A state variable filter is one that can switch from LP to HP/BP etc. you cannot change how a Juno filter functions. Nor does this manual say anything about the filter being state variable.

The IR3R05 is two second order state variable filters in cascade. The LPF output of the first into the input of the second. It's basically a chip version of the JP-6 filter in low pass mode.

State variable filter topologies do have HP, BP and LP outputs, however, manufacturers do not always make them available to the user. A classic example of this is the OB-X which only has the LP.

Appreciate the additional insight. I would still contend a “Juno” filter is not state variable. Even if the underlying technology deployed allows for certain features, when those features are not actually implemented it’s hard to pretend they’re there.

It's worth noting that 'state variable filter' does not mean any filter that has multiple output responses. That would be normally called a 'multimode filter'.

Second order ("2-pole") state variable filters have a very specific topology of a summing input circuit feeding two integrators in cascade, and with two feedback paths, one from each integrator's output. It's an electronic equivalent of a second order mechanical resonant assembly like a mass hanging on a spring.

It is possible to make multimode responses from most filter designs. The finest example of that is the Oberheim Expander which has a very large set of filter responses, LP, BP, HP, notches and mixtures of those. And not an SVF but a cascaded set of one pole low pass filters whose outputs can be summed and subtracted from one another.

That said, the actual details of the IR3R05 are a bit of a mystery. It is almost certain that it is two SVFs but how the adjustable resonance pathway is configured is not clear.

And one could argue that two second order SVFs in cascade is not an SVF as it would probably behave somewhat differently to say a true fourth order SVF.

The diagram of the same chip from the Alpha Juno 2 service manual explicitly states it's 2 series state variable filters:

New skin variation for Dune 3.600 (64bit) and Dune 3.520 (32bit). The last installer containing a 32-bit VST2 version is v3.55 - this shows up as 3.520 in the 'About' screen, IIRC.

If you just use the 64bit version then don't worry about it. Just use the 'DEFAULT - LARGE - VERSION - 1 - OG KNOB - GRILL - BIG - 1 - RED - E - 1 -- 3_6' skin.

If you want to use the 32bit version then it is included in the .zip file, called 'DEFAULT - LARGE - VERSION - 1 - OG KNOB - GRILL - BIG - 1 - RED - E - 1 -- 3_5'.

Sorry about the long file names. You can change them if you want. They will still work fine. I just put them up with these names because they are easier for me to remember. I have quite a few more variations on these skins. I'll get around to more sensible names and uploading the variations later on. I still have a couple more tweaks to do.

If you do end up using both 32bit and 64bit plugins (as I do) then no problem. Just select the right version of the skin from the menu, according to which version you are using at that time. You will work it out for yourself if this is the case. The good thing is you have both 32bit/64bit at your disposal to select as you wish.

The skins have been tested quite a bit by this point. I have had no feedback at all from anyone who has had sneak previews. I take this to mean "no news is good news".

The skin variation is only provided in 'Large' format, but that should be the one most people use most of the time. Only tonight did I notice a couple of minor things that need changing after testing some more using a higher res monitor on another computer system. I'll get around to fixing them soon enough. It's fairly trivial work. I'm too tired to do it tonight as it's Xmas! If you find any problems yourselves, then please let me know.

Someone on another thread was fancying one of the variations I did of the skin. I think this might have been the one. Anyway, it's similar.






This is only for the last 32 bit version (3.520), but I will update it to 3.600 sooner or later. You can use it with 64 bit 3.520 if you haven't updated. Even if you have, the skin will load but will miss the new functions - it still works fine on the whole if you just want to try it out and have a mess around - it won't break anything.

Glad you like it. I've built a template config file for updating to 3.600 so it makes it much easier to update from the 3.520 skins I've done, and then it's just a case of changing the odd graphic, but I've also already done them as well, so it will just be a case of doing the odd new one for those where I maybe used an alternative in the changed one. That probably makes no sense. Never mind, it's not much work is what I'm trying to say, it's just a case of getting around to it when I don't have brain fog. Thing is I have a couple of dozen new skins, so I'm going to have to go through each one and update.

I might just put up the 3.520 versions as they are already done, and then if anyone really wants the updated version they can ask. They still work of course in 3.600, except for a few elements. It won't break anything.

I recently bought Corel AfterShot Pro and PaintShop Pro but I'm just familiar with Paint.net while I eventually get up to speed with the new programs.

I also have Cinema4D and I'm using that for a couple of new original elements I'm introducing and experimenting with.

There isn't an awful lot of graphics work being done tbh bar the odd element here or there to make things fit. All the original work has been done by the OG authors (see the credits on the plugin itself).

Ahh, I know that program. I did a lot with Paintshop Pro back in the 90s building Winamp skins. I didn't even know it's still around but I think you'll find it very capable

So, have looked around for the past 5 minutes, but i don't see quite how the IR3R05 must be SVFs?
I haven't seen the datasheet or even the full pinout, but it looks like it could just be a normal roland OTA cascade, but with built-in res loop and cv converter?

What is the clue that makes people say its SVF?

Yeah, i've seen that roland explanation. But it's still a bit weird that they would hard-configure the whole IC as a 24dB filter. Anyway., moving on.
