I was afraid the new version would get a lot of new stuff so i would have to buy one asap. But there aren't too many new features i really need. Good for my wallet. Though i might get one in the future at some point.

Really hope the chorus effect gets added to the Syntakt in a future update.

my digitakt 1 went a bit weird a month ago (buttons are weird colours, some dont light up , the hardware checker doesnt show things correctly).

so maybe i'll 'need to upgrade' .
it seems to be more of an evolution than revolution , but if its got more oomph than v1, perhaps theres more to come .. elektron tend to support things longer term....

but - i'll buy it based on what it does now....

at least with stereo i can pre-process things for a nice chorus/phase/flange/widening type of fx.. anything that needs a stereo field to achieve the fx required.

The big win IMHO is adding kits. I can't tell you how many times I've cursed the lack of kits when I had to futz around fixing levels across patterns in order to dial in the mix.

I could live without stereo samples, chorus, added memory, etc. But if I could choose one thing to port to MK1, it would be persistent kits across patterns

Still using the crappy buttons that turn to goo I guess... Maybe digitone 2 next?

Ah man, no more yellow OLEDs. Could have put a screen filter on though. The white is just a bit….ehh.

I love the yellow OLED. It gives it analog warmth.

This is a big part of why I sold my OG: trying to arrange multiple patterns with the same sounds was a nightmare... having to copy edits back and forth one sound at a time after changing one of them. ������

Coincidentally, I just ordered an Octatrack the day before this was leaked, and this probably could have filled a similar purpose (playing/mangling loops in a live set). But obviously it can't compare with with some of the OT live performance features... streaming, thru machines, master track, cross-fader/scenes, etc.

to be clear, so you ware saying elektron puts a coating on their buttons for more grippy feel and that degrades just like the knobs on arturia products and you get a sticky mess covered in hair/grease/gunk that make them un touchable without a YUK feeling?

my a4 mk2 did similar, HW /FW checker said all was fine and yet i had the below

page button led did not represent anything close to reality, colours were messed up - some tracks showed yellow instead of red and so on

sent to elektron, fixed and returned in tip top condition

My guess is that Elektron has a new ARM based hardware platform for the next decade, and they have ported their software, like the rest of the industry.

To remove those dreadful soft-touch coatings gone sticky, isopropyl alcohol does wonder.
Use at you own risk though.

Does the Digitakt (2) support true polyphonic mode if I dedicate a few tracks to the same sound? Does is have a mode for this and take care of the voice allocation algorithm? Or do I have to piece the notes together one track at a time or use an external voice dispatcher?

And then any chance its smart enough to handle multisamples across a couple octaves?

No, no and no. All tracks are mono so there is no voice allocation algorithm.

Yes you could use an external tool but then why buy the Digitakt II at first place? Buy something that actually has polyphonic audio tracks at first place.

midi tracks are 4 note poly, so i'd also think if you dedicate same patch to multiple audio/sampler tracks the most you can have per step is also 4 notes.
so no jazz chords!

I had a electronic sensor system in a plastic case. I recall that isopropyl alcohol bleached lines into the case and shifted the colour from very dark grey to pale grey...

The case was packed in foam in use, to protect it from vibration, otherwise it would have been ruined if it was something you see every day, like music gear

It can take time for the effect and it is permanent...

I would say isopropyl alcohol is too aggressive for many plastics. There may be exceptions, it is just not worth the risk

From the motherboard picture and the last part of Cuckoos video Beginner's MEGA TUTORIAL (!), it seems the DT2 is a transitional platform.



The MF54415 - which is the core MCU in the DT1 - is still there, but there's a new Analog Devices SHARC ADSP-21569 onboard.
I'd say they have ported parts or the whole sound engine to the DSP, freeing some resources on the MCU for extended UI and sequencer functionalities, while maintaining the Elektron user experience.
Next gen platform would ditch the Freescale for someting ARM like the competition.
If it is so, that's smart.
