How are you patching your Strat thru yours..? dod you use a DI or anything in the connection..? I've just bought a Strat and wouldn't mind trying some of this, and what do you mean 4 or 5 stomp boxes in there..?

My strat goes straight into one of the inputs, then I set it for just that channel as input. (This is saved as a patch). Then you have a basic boost which distorts right in those settings, if you want it. Google virus TI input and you should see a couple of other switches which are right there, and might need a tweak. The manual goes over it in Config I think, without mentioning guitar. It's super simple though, and you would make it work with a little experimentation.

But the serious fun is in the distortion settings. Mint, Curry, Saffron, Onion, Pepper, and Chili are all modeled on specific famous stomp boxs IE "pedals", I forget which is which but you can search it out. Each of these has some really cool "knobs", which could be easily mapped to a FCB1010. These were a very late addition in the firmware updates.

I'm just learning guitar, so I don't bother with setting up a foot controller......yet

Any now I have my 'INPUT' patch, and I don't need to change anything, unless I want different. The delay, reverb, filters and many other things have strong effects on the guitar. The TI then is working as pre-amp as well, and out go my normal two channels into my mixer. It will go louder than I can stand. I'm pretty sure it would be awesome straight into headphones, but I have not tried that. My neighbors are not that close,

I am just using the guitar in single mode with drums from the RD-8, but I'm pretty sure you could make a multi and use the ARP to layer drums, bass, pad, whatever, and tweak those with guitar still live.

The TI stays in many studios just as an effect engine for other stuff. You could add "INPUT 2" and use the other input for an addtional instrument or mix.

The last TI update also has a speaker emulator, so you can do a full on fictional amp setup with the Virus. You can tell that home dude was getting ready to commit to Kemper modeling when he was working on it.

The fourth Virus TI2 I've owned arrived yesterday. I figured since this is such an expensive beast to buy and sell, I'd get the keyboard version and when I'm not using it, I'll put it in the closet instead of selling. So I was testing it out yesterday (great bargain from a sketchy seller, so I was making sure absolutely everything works) and it was nice rediscovering this beast of a synth. I spent more time with the presets than I usually do, playing them with the keys instead of MIDI and going through the settings to better understand how the sounds were put together.

But yeah, fourth TI2, and it feels like coming back home to a reliable old friend. It's been well over a decade by now since the TI2 came to market, and it's had a massive impact on my music and my sound-design. It's still as much of a beast as it ever was in the past.

One thing I like about the TI2 is it's 16 part multi.. That's incredible.

MPCX and Virus TI with the 16 part multi timbral.. You can compose the whole thing.. I like it.

...is honestly still going. It's been way hotter this time of year than it usually is, so I moved the garage studio into the dining room and in doing so, I'm spending more time with the instruments. The keyboard really makes a world of difference. Even with presets, I'm just enjoying playing basic chord progressions and having those beautiful effects carry me away.

I had an MPC X and sold it, and now I'm regretting it. I got an MPC One for the little workstation and in setting it up, I found out about how comprehensive the last couple of OS updates were. They really brought it back up to the workflow that I'm used to from the MPC 1000 and MPC 5000 and feels like a real workhorse again. If I had the MPC X still, I think I could do a lot of damage. Yeah, the One can do everything the X can, but the extra outputs would be so freaking awesome.

It's a great combo..There's this Akai plugin inside X.. It's called HYPE? that synth by itself is one of the most impressive sounding I ever heard.. It's like the Virus except HYPE is all wide sounding(big sounding).. This makes the X also a super capable groovebox.
