....I know people don't want to hear it, but a large collection of vintage gear can be a huge timesink and detrimental to actually getting things done.
Sad but true.
In the 80s and 90s I had a studio full of classic instruments, (out of necessity as that was all there was), that I loved. I ended up, however, being as much a curator as a composer. I eventually streamlined to maintain and improve my productivity.

This is so true. The difference between being a collector and being a musician is mostly a matter of how much gear you have. I have an enviable amount of gear, but I never make anything with it because I'm too busy planning out all the ergonomics and workflows and I'm always troubleshooting.
Mostly posted to show off my new rug my girlfriend bought me. It really ties the room together!!
I love it!!
How do you like your Hag Capisco chair? I've always liked the concept of it, allowing you to sit in several different positions instead of being locked into one ergonomic position. Active sitting vs passive sitting I guess. After an incredibly long and stressful search I discovered the Hag Sofi which I've had for about a year and it's been perfect for me.
one (small) benefit of getting ready for a move is that sometimes you find interesting things like old photos.
Here's some scans of my gear pix from roughly 1995-2005. Likely most of the old folks can identify the vast majority of things.
User name ludicrously checks out. End this thread. End Gearslutz. Hell, just pull the plug on the internetβ¦
Not many people have owned a RMI Harmonic , what did you think of it, did you use it a lot ?
Also can I ask what is the red synth above your Jupiter 4 ?
The red synth was serial number 1 of 6 Syrinx re-issues they did around the same time as the Fenix modular.
I really liked the RMI for some sounds. For me, it was like the PolyMoog and CS-80 in that you really had to play it and record it to capture the uniqueness of the instrument. It would have been awesome to keep everything forever for those 'just in case' moments, but at some point I came to my senses. Lol

The added bonus is spending way less time repairing/maintaining the gear. It was a fun run from 1989 through about 2010 and I was blessed to have owned and played a lot of very rare/classic gear over that time and learned a lot about synthesis, MIDI and all manner of synchronization, reading schematics, and repairing my stuff. For all that, I'm thankful and have been happy to share what I learned with folks that wanted to know.
Very similar experience. Wouldn't give up that experience for anything. Yet, so glad to be done with it!
