This is absolutely perfect. You've given just as much thought to ergonomics and presentation than to equipment itself. In many ways it reminds me of my studio, only much cleaner and less dusty.

The sliding draws show the level of OCD involved. It's perfect

What synths are off to the right?

I had the desk built to my specs. The original desk had straight forward facing rack shelves and I told them to angle them at 20 degrees and add space between the racks for my 32” monitor to fit. Then I had the tray reduced in height so it’s exactly 3” of space, enough for the keyboard and pedals to fit. I don’t bang my legs at all, and I’m a tall guy.

I’ve had all types of setups over the years and this is just the latest (and probably the best) layout I’ve come up with. I finally decided to buy a custom desk instead of fiddling with IKEA furniture, and it makes my life a lot easier. I have another (DAW-less) setup right behind me which I will post at some time.



Thanks man. To the right I have a Juno 106, with a PolySix above it. The Poly is senile and will need to go to the old synthesizers home soon. It looks cool but not very usable as I get this loud warbly LFO noise after holding any patch in for more than a few seconds.

I tried to keep it mostly analog with the OTB gear. I do use a ton of plugins as well. Love the combination.

I don't get much chance to use my little home studio as I'm always working crazy hours at my day job, now during these terrible times i'm feeling guilty spending so much time in here whilst people outhere are fighting for their lives and others fighting to save lives (PS if the eurorack patching doesn't appear to make sense, my 4 years old granddaughter did it )

It's amazing how much black and white changes things. I didn't even recognize the Matrixbrute and I literally just stopped playing mine.

Beautiful setup, Cane Creek! So many questions, but I'll limit it to these three if you have a moment:

1. What keyboard stand is that (holding the Matrix Brute, etc.) and do you find it supportive enough to use with something with pads like a Novation Circuit?

2. What about that stand holding the Elektron device by your Eurorack?

I can tell you've put a lot of thought into the ergonomics of your space. That keyboard table stand in particular is a thing of beauty!

1. Rack = Jaspers 170‑4‑150b.
According to Jaspers the bottom shelf supporting Matrixbrute is fine for 40KG, the horizontal single bars above are each ok for 15kg, would hold a circuit whilst you bang away at it no problem.

The Jaspers rack is new i only got it during this lockdown, before that i had a sofa there, i always wanted a sofa in my space for when friends visit etc, but in reality i only used it on a wedneday evening to watch sonictalk and its rare i have friends over (everybody is working themselves to death me included )
So i kept looking at the sofa thinking thats gear space , i had most of my synths unconnected on shelves with this idea that i grab whatever synth i want to use and hook it up on my desk, but in reality that just doesn't work everything feels like an effort so stuff just gets left on the shelves (ornaments)

So now flick one switch and everything on the rack is instantly available in my DAW, much better set-up as everything will now get used without feeling like a chore.

You can get those jasper racks with 6 tiers (6d-150B) which i almost bought, but doing a bit of research i found people saying 6 tier are fine for storing your synths but if you want them angled so you can see and use them you end up losing some tiers because of the space you have to create, thats when the 170‑4‑150b looked a far better option for my setup.

2. the little stand for the A4 i just knocked up out of some wood i had in the garage

The cardboard tube you can just about see in the background is my Aphex twin umbrella (windowlicker) its not been open yet as opening them in the house is supposed to be unlucky

Thanks! I've been looking at various Jaspers and K&M stands (and patchbays and a desk) during this lock down too with the same ergonomic aim, to have everything immediately playable. I don't currently have surface area or audio interface inputs for everything that I want permanently setup. Of course, it's a pretty trivial problem I'm trying to solve in the grand scheme of things, but I can't help myself.

And I love that you have that umbrella! I had 2 Aphex twin t-shirts and a Warp records t-shirt in college. But I rotated through them pretty much non-stop until there wasn't really any shirt left to wear. You've reminded me I need to also step up my AFX memorabilia. XD

Finally, I listened to a few of your tracks yesterday after gawking at your synth cave — great stuff!

Damn shame I don't live close enough to stop by chill on the sofa you used to have, seriously, but that stand is tits and a lovely improvement.

input i have a clarett 8 pre with 2 mixers going into it, a Rane SM82s line mixer on my desk and a Yamaha MG12/4 on my rack.

The Yamaha mixer i bought a few years back from a girl at a car boot sale for £20, she told me it was her Mam & Dads they sang in pubs for years, you could tell as it stunk of stale beer and cigarettes

I'm currently making a track with just a 1988 Yamaha PSS-680 what i got from a boot sale for £3 ...... less is more..........
