In honor of moving into a bigger space, here's some pics of my synth hole for the last few years before I move everything out.

It's there brother and all ready. Finally got it back

It looks so cozy in there being surrounded by all that synth goodness.

I finished the XT about a week ago, it currently has a 4PM filter.
A couple of the LED's are dead, but will be replaced later when the Dual SVF filter and the Vacuum fluorescent display that I ordered arrive.

The Tanzbar Lite is also new, so I am still getting a feel of it's workflow.

I can't fit everythin in this spot, but I'd like to keep it compact anyhow.

Where did you find the XT? Did it come as a full kit? If so, would love to know where - I've had a hell of a time finding them anywhere these days.

The control board and 4PM kits came from Tubeohm at different times and the case came from Modular Addict.

Modular Addict still has the XT cases available in black.
Not being able to find one was the biggest hurdle for me starting the build, so if you want one, you better get it now.

They also have all of the pcbs and pre programmed microcontrollers available if you don't mind sourcing your own parts. All of the parts for the SMR 4 are available at mouser, so that one would be a good one to start with. I haven't had luck building a self sourced control board, so I can't say much about that one.

The Tubeohm kits are kind of expensive if you live in the US, but I haven't had any problems with them and they come with good quality components.

I've never been more content with my pile of gear than I am now. <3
Also have a FR Revolution and MPC Live (still coming to terms with how to use it well) off to the side, but focusing my energy on these guys right here lately.

(A bit embarrassed to share, cause it's over the top, and as a socialist, I don't think anyone should have too many toys when others don't, and as a Marxist with Buddhist tendencies, I'm damn skeptical of my own gear fetishes. But I'm recording like a fiend these days, using it as much as I can, trying to let others who don't have access to this sort of gear use it whenever possible (while maintaining security). I'm not a wealthy guy, pretty standard job in a very expensive city, living with another musician roommate at age 43, this is just the result of 3-4 years of living on ramen noodles to pay for it! Got some great deals on some of it by just searching high and low in every possible place, even classifieds around the world negotiating by Google translate. I'm also currently single and no dependents, which also helps (a lot, and this sort of hobby helps keep one single!). But my music centers around showing the sides of this gear that often isn't shown, and is in some senses its semi-gear driven. Then again, 90% of what I do could be done with a prophet 600 gligli, a moog for solos, and plugins, the rest is just gravy, guilty fun, and that final 5%. Oh well.)

Left to Right:
- Oberheim Xpander, Elka 610 (love stringers), Yamaha Sk-30 (strange, quirky, makes very unusual sounds, so much fun), Korg Trident MK 1 (such an amazing tone on the synth section, even without the bells and whistles, even with only one env the curve seems to apply diff to filter and vca to get max benefit from it).
- Eko Stradivarius (my favorite string synth because it sounds like a lo-fi horror film!), Prophet 5 r2, Prophet 600 (my first love, one of the best all rounder synths ever, just can't seem to part with it despite the overlap), Minimoog (old osc), Oto Bim (amazing), Symetrix 606 (sold, but def fun), Lexicon 200 (sold, but lush, just didn't click), Dynacord VRS-23 (old and chunky sounding), Prophet VS rack (grit, grit, versatile grit!).
- Roland RS-202 (glassy), Sequential Pro-One, Mackie mixer, MXR Phase 90 script, Kenton Box.
- Maxikorg 800dv (strangest synth ever), Casio VZ-10m (nice tone, a little diff from yamaha fm, annoying to program), Oberheim SEM orig (amazing and much more versatile than it appears), iMac, DX7IIfd (also primary midi controller).
- Arp Odyssey Mk3, Neumann KH102a monitors, DK Synergy (orig), Roland DC-20 BBD, Oberheim OB-x 4 voice.

- Not shown: Yamaha E1010 BBD.

- Currently making final payments on: Arp Chroma Expander, Roland SH-5.

Lotta wires. Big mess. No space (small apt!). Hard to work in. But lotta fun.

(Why 3 diff BBD units? Aside from being a huge fan of BBDs, they all have diffs. Only VRS has that strange BBD reverb and thicker, only the Roland can move continuously from really short to really long repeats (and the long ones are pillow soft), while the Yamaha is the overall best, highest clarity yet still tons of warmth, and amazing flange/chorus.)

I should also mention that teaching/writing philosophy is my day job (though I make about a standard public school teacher), and I spent two years training to be a therapist before I got the job in philosophy. basically, overthinking is what I do. explains a lot.

and after 9 years eating ramen in grad school, being a monk for grad school made it easy to just switch over to being a synth monk once I was able to let myself have an increasingly serious hobby again.

Temporary setup while my house is being renovated.
1 row euro, a sequencer, a few more boxes, cheap temporary mixer with 8U underneath. No room for monitors so headphones or little UE speaker. Almost a year like this so a bit frustrated.

There is a mistaken notion, fairly common I am sorry to say, that ones observations about what is, and their thoughts about what might be ideal, need to align exactly with their behavior or there is something wrong. This is in fact a logical fallacy.

One may live under an oppressive privacy invading police state, be opposed to it, but still behave in a way consistent with self preservation without being a hypocrite. Is such a person obligated to risk their life in active continuous resistance to the detriment of those they love and those who depend upon them or be judged as hypocritical in their belief that the oppressive police state is less than ideal? A child might argue such, but an adult recognizes realities and their complexities.

Such paradoxes define human existence - we all embody them in our every waking moment, and anyone with sufficient humble introspection should be able to easily recognize the places where pragmatism undermines ones ability to make all actions consistent with ones higher level observations about what may be a more ideal system. Any black and white litmus test is naive and childish.

I hope you appreciate that I was just having fun. The thought of Marxist Buddhist with synthesizer tendencies was just to humorously fascinating to let it alone. I am a respector of all philosophical beliefs though, as long as they are not destructive to others.

I suppose the expectation is that if you posses empathy for the less fortunate, that you might describe as 'Marxist tendencies' but are living (due to circumstance) in the midst of the accelerating tailspin of dystopian capitalism, you are obligated to toil for the man perpetuating the system you despise, but because of your beliefs you do not deserve to reap any personal enjoyment in return.

My two main projects are CausaliDox (moody electronica / techno with a dash of acid) and sonOnos (acid techno). My third (just for fun) project is Bob Knutton (Get it? Knob Button... ; experimental, electro clash / pop).

Been producing solo for about 13 years now. Many iterations to my studio, this latest version dates back to summer of 2015 when I shifted back to hardware sequencing. Am very happy now with my setup.

<edit> Oh and before you ask, yes, I need to do some treatment to the room, but I mainly produce on headphones late at night, so I haven't had an urgent need to have a decent sounding room, but it's slowly starting to become a thing... </edit>
