OK, I believe I have isolated the root cause of this Solo Safe Mode issue.
When you create a new Project in Logic, Logic automatically creates a "Preview" audio track and a "Click" Auxiliary track. Even if you create the project with a single Instrument track.
For some reason the "Preview" channel strip got deleted in the Projects I have run into this issue with.
I know there was a bug bag in release 10.5 something where aaudio tracks were getting deleted randomly and buses were being reassigned. My guess is that somehow that bug randomly deleted my "Preview" audio channel strip.
As to why this has not been resolved by Apple - my guess is that they do not see this as a bug. People should not be manually removing the "Preview" audio channel strip.
The "Preview" audio channel strip is used for previewing audio from the Project Audio Browser or Audio File Editor, allowing you to set volume, add effects, and select separate outputs. It seems when this channel strip disappears, Logic randomly anoints another audio track to take its place so it either grabs the highest existing audio track or the next time you create audio tracks it will grab one of them instead. And since users are not supposed to be deleting this channel strip, there may be a bug once the channel strip is deleted such that the audio channel strip that Logic chooses is indeed completely random. But again, to them, this is likely not seen as a bug because users should never deleted the Preview audio channel.
Hope this info helps someone in the future. So far it appears I amy be the only person in GS that has encountered this issue.
