The ones like this will do XY and ORTF if you have pencil condensers and mic clips that hold the body. Flip the screw on one side for better results in XY .
Any of you guys know where to get a big stereo bar for wider spaced pairs? The kind where there is a 2 to 3 foot long bar and you can "slide the mics around" on it to vary the width of the pair.
I almost hate to give this one up...
Buy a Radio Shack "desk" mic stand. The short one.
Remove the base. Keep the short "stand".
Obtain a Atlas-style boom arm and replace the arm with the short stand.
The short stand is threaded at both ends to mount mic clips.
With the short stand mounted in the adjustable part of the boom, you'll have an adjustable (tilt. rotate) stereo bar that mount to the top of a regular stand. I use a couple of Sabra shock mounts for isolation and a cool look. The only down side is that you can't place the mic clips any farther apart. Works real well for ORTF, XY, but maybe not enough width for spaced pairs.
+1 for the Sabra Som. The adjustable connectors are worth it! I hate doing XY from a fixed point, and likewise, the smaller stereo bars that do XY well aren't spaced well for ORTF.
