The 414/EB usually has the brass capsule which is repairable. But some later ones have the pop-together capsule (as used in the B/ULS) which I wouldn't want to try repairing.

I had a motherboard replaced in one of my C414B XLS but I have never had a capsule re-skinned or replaced by an aftermarket one such as you mention (e.g. one by Ben Sneesbey). After replacement, how close to original does the mic sound? I realize you wouldn't have a matched pair, but does the timbre, self-noise and sensitivity remain similar?

That's the old style nylon CK12 and of course, everything is doable with the right tools and dedicated time . . . even if you have to manufacture the tools for it at first [all efforts I would not put into this capsule]. I would buy the current capsule version -which has a different capsule mount- and DIY a mount adapter if it is for an old EB / ULS model]

The current nylon CK12 version for the XLS & XLII has the problem that the glue that was used to set the diaphram disintegrates over time [maybe the glue is too environmental friendly : ] I don't know if Samsung/AKG has solved this by now. I've got the info from Electronic Music Service here in the UK when asking for a spare capsule in 2019

I thought the Lewitt stuff was excellent value for money and the Austrian as good as anything else.

Played with an old brass capsule 414 last weekend and boy that sounded good.

ANOTHER big plus-- both 441's and the currently still functioning 414 all fit into the 414's box! Convenient-- and convenience is surely the remotester's beast of burden and cross to bear-- gladly, of course.. but still...

Something else vital to note: the 441's are hugely densely weighted, really heavy for their compact size-- which in this case I enthusiastically embrace the burden--all dating back to my curious instinct that when a sound wave hit a solid object, if the object is floppy and flimsy, a share of the energy will slap the mic around and be dissipated... whereas whence and only if the object resists and remains immovably solid, and converts every microgasm of sound into its electrical code, well, that's just a better capture-- obviously and irrefutably, right?
