Nice cymbals idea in the beginning.
I think the cymbals are a little bit loud and the snare is not so cool.

See what ya think about this:

Not sure what happened to the very front, the file seems slightly clipped off.

Csiking, next time, try to post in mp3 version.
Cool drum ideas. I also like the overall reverb!
Did you use a VST for the drums?
The bass&drums are very good eq
I just think the cymbals are loud in the pre-chorus.

Eatme, now it's sounding better. Thanks for re-posting!
Keep up the good job.thumbsup

Hey Skid how about letting us here your version of this mix? And what kind of studio do you have...monitors, room type et cetera? Just curious. Updated my mix version along with adding an mp3 link.

SuperLuigi, good job, I just think the cymbals are loud and the guitars are not.

Thanks Lexxeldorf, for enjoying the song!
Nice job you've got! Really cool mix and good drum ideas.
It's a pity it was only 1:20

Conrad, nice drumbass!
The drums are really good eq'd
Could you just tweak the volumes up and add some more bass?

I think there's too much treble.
Regarding the snare, I guess you should "open" her sound, maybe adding some bass...

Oh dear...Just saw this thread and the acoustic thread an hour or so ago. I'm missed the fun here man. Am I too late??

Here a quick 30mins or so mix.

No offense here man, just thought that the recording could be better, and best of all, done at 24-bit 96K or higher. Thanks for whoever who started this thread!!

Sj2six, cool idea in the beginning!
I didn't like the drums in the first version
You putted certain pieces at L or R and I think it didn't work out fine...
The second version is way better.

Thanks skidwasted. The beginning could b better, but I used my spare time to do a quick mix, hence, didn't really have time make everything perfect. And alot of crucial harmonics from the bass gtr is lost in the mp3 conversion. Anyway, ermm...I'm sorry but I did not alter anything between the first n second piece for the drums, hence, it should b the same by right. Mayb you can elaborate more? The only difference btween the first n second mix is the guitars. Just did some subtle changes in the v last minute when I finished the acoustic piece n got back to this metal piece.
Don't get you on the "certain pieces at L or R" too. Are you referring to the Tom-rolls or the Gtrs?
(Anyway, just for you info, my habit over the years is that i usually pan the drums from the drummer's perspective.)

By the way, beautiful pieces for both the metal n acoustic. Because they are really nice pieces, I strongly recommend you to either step into a studio, or if u prefer DIY, invest in some great guitars and pedals as well as recording equipments to capture a better sound.
Well, I don't know you very well, hence, I'd never know u might already b very experience in this field. So pardon me for sharing some of my personal experience for the benefit of someone who might b new in this field :
Well, I always hear musicians n amatuers love saying this "Fix it in Post" I would wish to remind these people that out of the three general stage -Recording, Mixing & Mastering, the recording stage is the most important stage. Coz if you did not capture a good sound in the very first place, don't expect mixing and mastering to do magic for you. And if you have a good sound from a good guitars/pedals/amps/PlayTechnique, but you don't have the right recording equipments such as mics/preamps/etc., you still unable to capture a good recording. Likewise, if you have the best recording equipments but do not have a good guitar/pedal/amp/PlayTechnique to produce a good sound, a good recording will not b achieve too.

P.S. once again no offense skidwasted, I really find them both as beautiful pieces and hope you can bring them into an album or something for release. However, it stills lack of something: a nice textures n forms. Musician/Composer gives life n soul to the composition, while engineer gives textures and forms to it. Good luck and thanks once again for the files sharing!! thumbsupthumbsupthumbsupthumbsupthumbsup

Yeah man, I posted these songs here to collect good ideas. That was my initial intention.
I'm gonna re-recored the songs with real amps and use a better VST for the drums.
Yesterday, I got in touch with a vocalist, so now things will continue to go.
Maybe, in May, I'll post the finished versions.heh

Here's my take.

I decided to go for quite a punchy rock mix with this track, Hence the more dominant bass and drums. The guitars sit further back than some may like. I haven't used much compression, letting good room verbs (and some plate sizzle) do most of the work for me to fatten things up. The midi file was used to create another drum track with a pretty wet mixed kit.
There's no master limiting at all, so you may need to wind the volume up a touch. There are also a few digital overs.. because I'm lazy.

Who knows.. I could be way off with this.
Please go a little easy on me, as I'm self taught, and my temporary studio situation is far from ideal. Working away from home without my monitors.
Feedback appreciated thumbsup

Thanks to the OP for the track. It was fun to mix, especially the drums. It was a challenge to liven them up, making them feel less like samples. Good times!

Shannon

Still would love to hear your mix, or version, so all of us can see what type of point of prospective you are giving suggestions from. Because obviously if your room is screwed up your mix suggestions are pretty much in vain aren't they?
