Event 2030 problems

On my 2nd pair of 2030s and it looks like I'll be moving to a third... The first pair developed problems with the tweeters (though I think in reality the amps are to blame) and my replacement pair has issues right out of the box. The left monitor is noticeably lacking in low mids and there's a general lack of presence throughout which is making me question the right monitor as well.

I'm using them through an mr816x which hasn't had any issues with an old set of monitors that I've increasingly had to use more often. I hate to say it but I feel as if there is something wrong with the amplifier design, or the made in china build quality are letting these down. Rode/Event support has been great thus far though!

Anyone else have these and experiencing any issues? I don't think I'm going to buy in so soon on a new product in the future

Bluehorse,

I'm getting a pair 2030 Friday and i hope and pray i don't have any problems cause one of my event precision 8 is acting crazy when i crank the volume. I get pumping from the woofer and strange noise so i decide to just get the 2030. May I ask where you purchase your 2030 from.

If you don't want to say here on GS can you please PM me so don't purchase from that dealer.

Thanks denlig

I don't really want to oust the dealer as they haven't really had any part in this. The original pair developed problems within a week or so and the direct from Rode/Event replacements have issues right out of the box.

I've done some speaker repair, mostly on non-PA gear. Perhaps there's the possiblity of a replacement tweeter diaphragm? Can you post pics?

I've returned them because they were too much for my room. But that's not a technical problem.

Yeah problems here
And right now I,m screwed

The tweeter on the right speaker started distorting in the 1-2khz range
Well I think it,s just the tweeter, might be the amp or crossover I suppose.
To be honest I only got my studio set back up a short time ago
So not sure if the speaker was like this out the box

Anyway I purchased these in the US but then moved to the UK
They are still under warranty but the UK Event support center
Said they can,t do it under warranty because they were not
Purchased in the UK

So I asked about purchasing a replacement tweeter
Told me it was around Β£45 .

Told me it was a simple job swapping them, I think the guy
Was thinking about the 2020,s because when I pulled the tweeter / midrange
Module out, the tweeter was soldered to the crossover.
Would be a nightmare to just change out the tweeter.

Anyway the support guy was nice, asked me for my serial number
From the defective speaker and said he,d look into something

Have not heard back from him since tuesday morning though
hope I,ve not been forgotten about.

So right now I have a couple of very pretty paper weights
What a bummer, shame really I,ve had 2020 BAS,s since
1997 and they were really reliable.

Does not seem like these new ones are.

hello everyone,

i have this tweeter problem with 2030's aswell. They were working great until my right tweeter stopped working today. No noise or anything, just a suddenly-not-working-right-tweeter.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this?

Yup well good luck, check them out extensively .
Do a sine sweep and make sure there is no distortion

Still waiting on support to see if they can help, been 2 weeks now
With no answer, only purchased these last november.
Pretty disheartened

Well I bought these in the US and moved to the UK
UK support won,t fix them under warranty because they were
Not purchased in the UK.

International support has been dreadfully slow
So it looks like I,m paying to get my monitor fixed
Even though I purchased these last november.

A monitor should last more than 6 months

The way I see it the monitors are made in China and
Shipped all over the world, the warranty should follow

Pretty ticked off to be honest.

Well after swapping the tweeter modules around in the monitors
It appears to be a amp issue the tweeters are fine

So it sounds like the same problem the OP was encountering
I,ve had it, it,s been weeks with no monitors now

I,ve sent this off to RODE support.

"Hello Xxxx

As stated before I,ve been in contact with your UK support ( Hand in Hand )
They cannot help me unless I pay to get it fixed.

After going back and forth with UK support and swapping tweeter modules
Between the good and bad monitors
It appears that the problem follows the amplifier, not the tweeter

I should not have power amp issues with a speaker that is less than
6 months old, I believe that a component in the power amp circuitry
Is failing, there for it appears to me to be a defective product.

Considering this I feel strongly it really is not my responsability to pay
To get this fixed reguardless of which country I bought these monitors from

I am starting to get really frustrated with the lack of communication
Between RODE and myself, this has been a issue for me for weeks
Right now I don,t have a reliable set of Reference monitors in my studio.

I,ve had Event monitors for nearly as long as Event has made monitors
So I find this experience has soured my trust in you company's products.

If this issue is not resolved in a timely manner, I will have to make
It very public on the pro audio forums about the problems I,m
Experiencing, seems I,m not the only one with issues concerning
This particular model.

I hate to come across as threatening, but I am getting frustrated that my
Reasonably new monitors do not function as intended

Thanks for your time

XXxXx"

Let,s see if this makes things move quicker
Will keep you posted

Yeah.. im already strongly considering sending mine back. Sucks though because there are only a few other alternatives. Seems like everyone is having problems with these speakers.

Well as much as I,m ticked off right now, I wouldn't generalize that
Eveyone is having problems with these, there have only been
3 of us on this thread with issues. The others just didn't get on with the
Monitors.

If you like them and they work fine, keep them.
If you have the issue I,m having you,ll know about it

It almost sounds like bit reduction aliasing in one of the speakers

Well it,s been 2 days since I sent my previous email to Event/Rode
and nothing back from both UK or International support,
it,s been 8 days since Rode emailed me this

Hi xxx,

I actually made a mistake with the UK distributor details for Event gear. I will speak to the people we have over there and see if they can help you with this. I will get back to you asap.

Kind Regards,
xxx

Service Department
RØDE Microphones / EVENT Electronics

, and 3 weeks since I opened a
support ticket and still no resolution

it,s getting on a month since one of these monitors failed

looking like they are going to flat out ignore me and not honor my warranty
these speakers are less than 6 months old.

This is rediculous

Well after much complaining Event has agreed to flat out
Replace my broken monitor, only thing is they are shipping it
From America, so may take some time.

Now let,s hope they tested the replacement before they send it

Yay!

At least for me, I would say maybe go for something else. I took mine back even though that hadn't started showing problems.....yet. I know there arnt too many affordable 3 way monitors on the market so its also a bit tough. I thought they sounded a bit muddy, and the bass was a bit boxy.

Thank you dear elvstudious. Can you please extend further on the muddiness and boxiness?

What kind of music are you composing? I am composing r&b, pop, rock, hip-hop all my sounds come from a Motif XS. I'm not using any acoustical instruments. Also two rooms I am considering using them in are 17x13 and 14 x12. I got qouted a get deal on them brand new and I haven't seen any bad reviews on them on any music dealer websites.

I think they sound great when working properly, which for me seems to be a couple weeks before issues arise...

You really have to let them breath, don't stick them in a corner and give them 4+ feet to develop a proper stereo image.

Are you talking about the distance they are from each other as in width or as in length from ear being 4 plus feet?
