chicago gearslutz - work scene a drag or what?

hello to any chicago-based gearslutz. i'm looking around for work options here in chicago, and is it me or are things pretty much dead? i'd love to stay in what i'm doing (post production / protools) but it seems like its mostly bad rock and roll at small studios, half way decent rap and r&b at strage hours at bigger studios, or a few hours a week of editing beer commercials downtown.

am i missing a sector of the business out there? anyone know where a qualified protools editor can find regular, decent-paying work?

Hello from the Windy City.......
Yes it does blow in Chicago....
I live in the Northwest burb's, But almost never do much work here.
I travel 90% for work, I do some post and mixing here.
But the work is not in Chicago, mostly bands with no deals or cash.
You can try Jules approach and hand pick some local talent and
bust their ass into shape and shop em.
But don't wait around for the phone to ring for work in this city.
Those who are established are working, but not saving to retire.
Good luck, but there is no gold rush happening here.

Then again, I quess you make your own luck, so don't give up...Just turn up the fire a bit.

Sincerely,
Renshen

thanks renshen. i am doing my best to make my own luck, but don't really look forward to having to travel to work - guess i've been spoiled actually having work in the city.

since i'm relatively new looking for work, can anyone point me to other places online or elsewhere where i can find listings / info on freelance work?

thanks!

You've got to make yourself known, and bust your ass as a freelancer. I'm lucky, because I have a steady gig. I have to say i'm glad to have a gig, but I do pick up the occasional freelance job. Find your own bands to work with, as there are plenty of studios to work at. Once you bring some work to these places ,maybe they will throw you some as well. Good Luck.
