Item found in trash kick starts lifelong ambition...

Yes, as I passed a house nearby where I live I did a double take when I spotted a dusty old digeridoo leaning against a trash can.

I knocked to make sure it was ok to take and it was it was.

A good half hour of disinfectant cleaner and hotwater later I was blowing rasberries into the thing.

It's pretty hard!

But fun to learn.

I thought I aced it but then I realised that I was blowing into the wrong end!

Ok back to the drawing board!

The final target is of course, the circular breathing technique.

But I see that as a few months away.

Fun.

I'm pretty good on one, except for one critical technique: circular breathing.

That's a great find and funny about blowing the wrong end... good luck with it!

Don't let a woman play it...it's taboo..
You might wanna re-wax the mouth piece to get rid of crusties too..

remember to "Smell your breath" (Sniff as you use mouth pressure to blow)
If that does not work I can suggest hallucinogenic mushrooms and play all night and you will circular breath.

One night every one in the room leaned to circular breath while on shrooms.
4 guys! What a trip!

Also you want to keep a full lung of air pretty much at all times, you cant circular breath with an empty lung very well. Take tiny gulps of air into your nose and eventually you will figure out that your mouth is able to push air out your lips with cheek muscles.

kthanksbye.

Aborigines learn by using a hollow reed to blow bubles in water till they can keep a steady stream. It also helps to have the dij slightly to one side of your mouth rather than in the centre like you would with a trumpet.

In my neck of the woods, didgeridoos are SADLY becoming a fashion statement for the Trustafarian Gliterati, to the point where some of us refer to them as "Didgeri-don'ts"...
Ah.. the Great North-West!!! Nice find!! those things prevent snoring and possibly sleep apnea!

yeah I found a good website that gives the tips like that away..

Dij to side - check!

Ability to create drone at will - fail!

Takes me about 20 mins to remember how I did it last time at the moment!

I need better lip memory!

I will get the hang of it eventually though!

Thanks for tips

make sure you try to make sounds that imitate stuff from around where you live.

i try to make the sound of a tram going round the corner into the depot at the end of my street. theres not much wildlife where i live. cats fighting, truck horns, v-8 car. notice the word "try". i only have a go when no one can hear me.

another tip i got from someone who had just come off a stage playing, was that he learnt to play on the pipe from the vacuum cleaner. it does the same job, and all you have to do is raid the cleaning cupboard. maybe not as romantic.

also i wouldnt worry too much about the taboo of a female playing it. if you follow that logic thru then i dont think anyone other than initiated tribesmen should be playing it. but i eat pork, meat on friday, drink alchohol and i'm pretty sure i offend all the other religions without even realise it.

More like a sniper blowdart!

The sound of that thing is really cool though. I can think of quite a few applications for it.

+1 for the dij-synthesiser
