Why are so many studios enamored with wood flooring? Why not have carpet to reduce reflections?

I think part of it is that carpet is absorptive, but is biased towards the mids and highs. Particularly in smaller rooms, that's not the part of the spectrum you want to be absorbing.

Another aspect is that you can use a cloud to offer broadband absorption or frequency-targeted absorption or diffusion and it can be tailored to the room's needs. For example you can control flutter with a cloud. So you don't really need to use carpet, especially considering it probably isn't doing the thing you want it to in the first place.

And, but, also, carpet leads to static electricity and that is some seriously bad ju-ju.

Flutter echo is a pitched "boyng" sound you hear when you clap your hands in an empty room, and it's caused by sound waves bouncing back and forth repeatedly between two parallel surfaces. But it can be difficult to identify which pair of surfaces is the main source of flutter echo, especially when the floor is reflective too. This new article and frequency chart helps to determine where acoustic treatment is best applied:

+1 Torea. The removal of the EDIT after a long time period seems on the surface like a good idea. But it has this one flaw of removing the possibility of change in reference documents. No change = no life IMO.
Luckily I included a Link to a live site on my Measurement Primer initial Post. This was pure accident, not foresight.

Just wondering how you would suggest treating a room like this in a home. (pdf attached)

All surfaces are hard. Wooden floors and plasterboard walls and ceilings. I have made some wide band absorbers that I have place directly behind the speaks that travel the full length of the wall.

I have also made some wide band low frequency absorbers and place them in the corners near the mix position. I used Rockwool Fibeetex 350 (60kg/m3) 50mm high. For one of the low freq absorbers I used three sheets, 150mm in total. All other absorbers are 100mm deep (2 layers)

At the moment I feel I have a good stereo image and can easily pick where a sound is coming from with the stereo field, but I'm no expert.

Also because the double doors are open on either side of the room is teh room effectively wider that 10'?

Hey all,

I've just moved in to a new place where I'm trying to set up a home studio space/mixing room. I've attached some pictures and a blueprint with some dimensions below. The ceilings are 12 ft high, which is probably my biggest worry.

Right now, the walls are bare and I've done no treatment on the space. What is my best move to deaden the room, while isolating it from the rest of the apartment?
