So there I was, having paid the money for the upgrade and some 15 year-old was already using it for free.
Do you think he was using it as effectively as you were ?

Cracks are easy to come by, but it's been my experience that most of the poeple using them are hacks anyway.

Not that that allows for them, but if your approach is to use what comes free or easy you aren't my competition.

iLok crack yet?

Wow.
I just looked at their website.

That's a nice device....ProTools and Steinberg, et.al. are using it and it would be nice to put all my security dongles (of any format) onto this thing and save having to buy extra USB hubs just for security keys.

There is apparently one out there somewhere. A search on Google 'ilok crack' yielded the following conversation at a yahoo group forum with certain elements deleted.

I also read a post where it's keeping some guy from using pro tools in OS X. He blames the iLok so something's going right, there!!!

You must be using the crack ilok key because this dosnt happen with a real
authorization.
I have bomb factory V2 plugs that are ilok authorized and they do not have this problem.

This problem arises from authorization errors.

Hell, most are psychopaths!!

We have lots of visitors coming in here and a few feel compelled to show off what they know about hacks. I guess they can't understand why we have 7 or 8 identical boxes of Photoshop and Illustrator, et. al. sitting on the shelves......

My curiosity got me and I pecked around the sites.

Many of the threads are scary to read.
Yeah, you get the ones where somebody wants a copy of Panther or something.

THEN I read where this kid was being bullied in junior high school and he was given unbelievably detailed instructions on the best ways to destroy this bully figuratively and literally.....these people are sick and demented to a greater degree than computer software thievery.

It really is scary when you think about it.....where are their parents?

I have personally seen (and reported) entire business running on cracked software. These are business that release commercial products, and try to maximize margin by not buying licenses for many seats.

Sure, cracks mostly render the software unstable. And in some cases people just re-use the 30-day eval over and over by re-partioning, reformatting, and re-installing everything. Imagine an entire business running this way. Over 10 years in s/w development I've pretty much seen everything.

And flexoffset is correct... I've seen entire products on warez sites before the product even hit the shelves... usually a day after the master disk is sent to manufacturing. Most often this is an employee doing this. Really sucks when you've spent 3 years of your life working on a project and it's out for free before anyone buys it legitimately.

Yeah...I used to work for a really crooked insurance company that literally had tens of thousands of dollars worth of cracked audio/visual software which there multimedia department was using to produce crap. I was going to report them ($$$ rewards?) but never got around to it.

I do alot of producing work in Japan and other parts of Asia and haven't seen the 'blatant piracy' of software as some on this thread have said.

In fact, these companies have more money than their western counterparts and don't think twice about sinking 20K into new software/plugins.

I guess it's the American thinking of "we are righteous, and all those wretched fools in other countries are screwing up everything and stealing so we have to pay extra for plugins".....

C'MON! Get off your high horse!

(By the way, I'm American but an expat)

I would like to find an insurance company that wasn't crooked LOL.

No rewards for narcing on a business. The motivated include software developers, and disgruntled employees.

Somewhere I worked a few years back were in panic mode as they were about to retrench a few people. I got called in to make sure we had all the software to match what we used.

A competitor had just sacked some IT guys who dobbed them in.
The story went they had only 10% of legit copies and a big microsoft fine.

Although every machine we had was loaded/copied from my machine and had the same serial #'s. We had sealed boxes for all of them

I have seen and heard about many big studios running with almost all cracked TDM plugs. It used to make me angry cause they could afford it but I don't care as much anymore cause they are really gonna be screwed when they need to move to HD or OSX.

More so an opinion of it than just another word for it.

There are no cracks for HD plug-ins using the iLok protection... going on two years now. Any "copy protection doesn't work" debates are officially over. Even if cracks appear tomorrow, it's been demonstrated that copy protection generates more money for the software companies.

--Erik
Here is a revolutionary concept: How about users pay for their software and in exchange receive the source instead of a black box binary? The irony of a developer such as yourself, whose entire product line is based on the impulse modelling of linear time invariant hardware boxes, taking such an obvious pleasure in the inconvenient guards and wards of their obfuscated products is extremely enteraining to me. You sell crippled intellectual property and then proceed to further alienate your customer base by insisting upon comprehensive copy protection. Tell me, would you take umbrage if someone reverse engineered your plugs, reimplemented them, and undercut your price point? or would you congratulate that engineer for beating you at your own game?

I understand that we all need to make a living, but your self-righteous tone strikes me as gauche given the circumstances.

bye-bye,
-kesserich
