I didn't use it directly but I just mixed a track with a voice recorded with it and it sounded crap (I knew the singer for having done an album with her) .All I could hear was the "variable distortion" that acted like a sound eater .It was recorded with a Sony C800G and there was no high ! I think they thrown in a tube in the circuit just for the tube hype . You'd be better off with RNP+RNC for the same kind of money. my 2cts.

I bought a used one some time ago, based on recommendations from others...Out of the box, the unit sounded VERY grainy and a bit harsh, so I replaced the tube with a quality 12AU7 (very low gain version of the stock 12AX7.) This worked, but only to a degree, and it does well on certain things but not for primary vocals anymore....

But, as a bass DI/preamp, WOW! Fat, warm (fill in your favorite adjectives here) and very natural... DI guitars (especially country-style Teles) sound killer, as do drum machine tracks. All in all a great investment of $125.00

Where do you get that kind of price ? Over here it's rather $500 (Euros for us but it's about 1€=1$)

Ouch! That's pretty steep! I haven't looked around lately, but about a year ago they were for sale all over the internet...saw a few online stores selling them new of $299.95...

Guess its yet another example of demand vs. cost...I remember when music stores were selling original TS808s for $19.95 just to get rid of them...now they go for $400 easy...

Thanks guys, I won't be getting one now. I was looking for someone to say, " That thing sounds great, I can't believe it's that cheap! it's a great vocal box."

I guess you get what you pay for after all.

What about the SPL Channel One???? I'm still on the fence about it.

The preamp on the Mindprint is a very good, under-rated pre for higher-output condenser mics. I would not recommend using it on most dynamic mics, and certainly not on ribbons. The input impedence is extemely high -- around 12K, compared to most pres that are anywhere from 2K on down.

This can be good in some situations where you need extra high-end detail. I happen to love the sound of the mindprint on accoustic guitars, shakers, and tambo. I'm sure it would be killer on cymbals with a good SDC, but again, I wouldn't touch it with an SM7 / 57 / RE20 or any ribbon mic for that matter.

The EQ and compression are pretty usable considering the price. Not a big fan of the toob, though.
