Benefits of insert as opposed to Chain

Would like to understand the difference between using an insert into say a tonebeast Preamp as opposed to running the processors in series?

I did try search

Haha, that's the spirit! Generally (like on a console for instance) an insert will allow you to insert whatever processor in between two stages, say in between the output of the console channel strip's equalizer and the output (going into the summing bus) for instance. In your mic pre, I'm not sure what purpose it would serve, maybe allow you to insert something between the first and second gain stages or something like that. Check the manual!
