7 & 8 on an API lunchbox

Why are the inputs male and outputs female on 7 & 8? Is that so you dont mix up 5 & 6?

The actual outputs of your gear will be male, so you need to plug them into a female jack with an xlr cable. It's basically a way to patch in the actual inputs/outputs of your gear to the DB25 connector.

Thanks, why did they label it that way?

It matches with the DB25 connector. 7/8 xlr output corresponds to 7/8 on the output DB25

XLRs (7 & 8) access channels 7 and 8 of the DB25's; otherwise you'd have 7 & 8 on your DB25 to XLR sitting useless. EXAMPLE: This way you could patch from one of the modules into the DB25 channels 7/8 to your DAW/recorder, or output from your DAW/recording device via back to the lunchbox and then patch into a module.

8 slot lunch boxes have only DB25's...no XLR
