Focusrite Sapphire Pro 24 DSP Optical Convertor Problem

Hey,
I just got a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP and I'm trying to use the optical converter in order to add channels from my Motu 8pre. It seems that I'm getting a signal through but there is a ton of popping and cracking sounds. From what I understand this is a Clock issue, but I don't know how to go about getting this to work properly other than that. If anyone has made this combination of gear work properly, or knows what I need to do to get this happening, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Just to be clear I have it set up right now so that the Optical In from the Focusrite is connected to the Optical Out of the Motu 8pre.
-Cheers
