What is the price(used/new) on the SPL Transient Designer 2? Also has anyone checked out their new Kultube Compressor?

Thanks.

I bought the Kultube after demoing it.

Hi,

The Kultube looks like a really cool tube compressor for 2 buss mix operations or mastering. What do you use it on? How much did you pay for yours? I am thinking of picking one up to try it.

Thanks.

Hi

The Kultube got a pretty frosty reception when I first mentioned it here on Gearslutz...

I use it mainly on sample/midi based drum loops. It gives them punch, depth, and a bit of sparkle. It also sounded good on vocals. It seems very versatile and powerful. It doesn't sound dark but it is beefy. I haven't tried it on the 2 bus yet but plan to...it should be interesting.
I'd be interested to hear your take on it if you demo it. We paid Β£1000 for it but could have got it cheaper Β£949ish if we'd dropped the demo unit dealer..

I think the fosty was due to the unit being a fairly unknown European device.. It sounds like it is serving you very well from the mixes you played me!

I am goint to send an email of to my contact at Thomann - Ivan Smith for a TD price.

Hi Jules,

Is this the price for the Kultube or the Transient Designer 2? I just picked one up used for $400(Transient 2). I still want to check out that Kultube though. I am right now working with the new Buzz Audio compressor OC 1.1. Looks like its going to stay here for a while.

Yeah. If you get a 2 channel one and immediately find you need more you could always exchange it.

Someone was telling me yesterday about another SPL box which is really useful....The Charisma. He said that it was originally developed for use with adats to add analogue warmth to digital recordings, but basically it's just distortion in varying shades. If you really wind it up, it gets really crunchy. I was considering getting Dfi, mainly for Lofi, but I might investigate this a bit further...It's supposed to be another cheap one.

Anyone had any experience with it?

I tried one..

I didn't really find it useful. Too much, too fast. As soon as you add a little it's starts to distort like there's no tomorrow.

The Transient Designer is VERY cool, but is a little noisy. You should be able to pick up the 4 channel version for under € 1000,- all over Europe.

SPL Charisma

Hey Jack,

I've got the Charsima 8 channel version. This thing is awesome and has brought new life into my Pro Tools Setup. I almost run everything I record through this unit. From slight and stylish tube distortion on vocals, acoustic guitars, to really severe crunch on kiks and snares - its awesome. It really brought warmth and depth to my recordings...I urge you to check this thing out.

By the way, Transient Designer 2 Channel versions are every now and then on German Ebay for around 250 - 300 Euros. So, worthwhile and about time to check one out!

Best,

I was talking about the blinkin' Kultube price!!! Phew!
The transient designer- not thinking about that just yet...want to hear it first.

Got a StirlingSyco leaflet, they seem to deal with a lot of SPL stuff (bought Kultube from them), they are selling Trans designer 2ch Β£269 / 4 ch Β£537 + VAT. Kultube Β£829 +VAT
Used and ex-demo: SPL Qure Β£650 +VAT
Anyone heard the Qure?

more on the charisma

yes, the charisma.

you must try it. i got mine off digibid for $150. so yes, you can get them for cheap.

difficult to control on some sources (see the too much too fast post), but when it works- it is amazing.

amazing on drums. pretty good on other stuff. do you like that flaming lips style drums...? the charisma will get you close to that.

nice for lo-fi vocals, keyboard parts, guitar/bass.
