need recommendation for ADAT interface

Greetings All!

I'm looking for an ADAT interface that will allow me to transfer/download the signal from an on-board DAT player on my mixing board (a Yamaha DMR8) onto my laptop (via USB 2.0), while maintaining all 8 channels.

As I understand it, this is a digital - digital transfer process, correct?

The DMR8 has an ADAT output, so I'm assuming I can plug this out from the DMR8 into an interface that has an ADAT in and a USB out?

I don't require any mic pre's or any of that - just something that will allow me to eventually create a music file (i.e. WAV or FLAC) on my laptop. The option to work with the 8 channels within my DAW software would also be a nice to have.

As you can tell by my question, I am fairly new to recording with a digital mixing deck. Previously I would record directly to a R2R and I wouldn't do any post-recording mixing, so I'm really in uncharted (for me) waters here!

Budget is in the sub $400 range (I'm not doing this professionally).

Firewire or USB?

The Focusrite Saffire Pro40 will do what you're asking for 5 bills. It may be more than you need but you'll have room to grow. I'm sure you can find use for the extra features.

Ooh! Sorry, I missed that the first time. I should have read more carefully.

You're pretty limited with USB 2. I'm no expert on USB interfaces, but isn't there normally a limit of 2 or 4 channels with USB 2.0?
