Something baffles me about this classic EQ:

You can choose the frequency for the low-end shelf EQs. However it sounds like the boost and attenuate knob respond differently to the choice of frequency. Is the slope of the EQ different? This isn't easy to hear!

I have also seen engineers use the boost and attenuate knobs simultaneously, which also tells me they must respond differently.

Thoughts anyone?

Yup, the attenuation happens a bit higher up than the boost. This results in a kind of tilted inverse-'S' curve. Punchy but tight.

Use them in conjuction with one another to make cuts in the upper bass and lower mids.
