Omni recording of guitar and vocal

I was stuck with a guitar and vocalist who wanted to record and I didn't have another mic stand there so I went with omni on my tube mic. Anyone else do this regularly? Pro's and cons? I thought it sucked, would not do it again. I did compress and eq it to a nice tone that they felt was in line with what they have gotten from studios in the region and it was ok, but certainly not what separate mics would have been, imo. The nuances were there for both the vocalist and acoustic. Massey 2007 made it very very nice. Used the Tabfunkenwerk U47.
