Very underrated console in my opinion. In fact, many of the Soundtracs consoles are highly underrated and not well known. I've used a Jade a few times but really cut my teeth on the Solitaire. The other sleeper from Soundtracs is the IL. Like I said, I don't have much experience on the Jade so I cant remember many details. But I'm friends with two members of a Grammy award winning band who's producer used it on many of their albums over in the U.K.

Hey there, Sidechain -

have it, use it daily in my mix room, love it.

Any questions or specifics, feel free to ask or PM, will be glad to be of assistance - the Jade is one hell of a console, and a very very underrated one, with many truly crap posts about it here on GS, some by people that I frankly suspect have never really even seen one in real life.

Also - check out
The Sonic Ark - A music studio
and GS member Nikodemos - has one and makes excellent use of it...
All of his & Sonic Ark's really good "Total Recording" instructional videos are made on a Jade, so...

Cheers,

A

We had a Jade for many years (now have an SSL 4048 E/G).
Excellent console: ease of use, functionality, routing possibilities, dynamics, patch bay,...

The overall sound is great - good eq - but of course not in the same league as Neve/API/SSL,...(less clarity and precision, less punch)

I would say it's an excellent production console for the price...good luck !

Needs a beefed up power supply for more headroom.

There's a Soundtrac specialist in the UK who supplies these..

They're very underrated, maybe cause they never got as widespread as many other consoles... far more of them in Europe than around these parts.

Btw, Sidechain - if U're curious, there's a post I wrote in another thread regarding some nearfield monitors in which I posted some songs/mixes - well, all of those have been mixed (not tracked) on my Jade, @ my place.

See, or rather listen, here:

I studied a HND in music production in Derry, Northern Ireland. The little technical college I went to used this desk for their classes and workshops. I did everything - all my assignments etc on it for 3 years. Good times.

Of course back then I had a particularly untrained ear and I was learning my skills still, so I couldn't possible comment on how good it was. However, now, many years later looking back on it - I remember it sounding very sweet and warm and it contained all the routing possibilities and functions you could think of that were required to train a class of production students.

I hear they recently moved into a new building and replaced the Jade with a brand spanking new Audient desk. Many people have been enquiring about the fate of the Jade - prospective buyers no doubt lol.

Here's a couple of tunes I mixed on my Soundtracs IL 3632
I love this console, great EQ's, routing, monitoring and most importantly, sound.
I think the Jade is a slightly higher model than the IL, that Soundtracs made?

SoundTracs Quartz - IL - Solitaire - Jade - Jade plus.....(That's a monster console)
DDA vs Soundtracs Vs Soundcraft - etc The IL Solitaire and Jade/+ were 90K$ Consoles in the mid 90's they sound lovely, are an easy fix.....and sadly go for 2-4K$
Got a Jade near you - Grab it!

Back here to this thread for yet another example, pretty happening over here on the radio & TV these days:
Sixtynine - Don't give up (official video) - YouTube
Tracked on a Neve VR (and plenty outboard) and some Studer desk overdubs (and plenty outboard), mixed on my Soundtracs Jade, in my mix room.
Mastered by DaGoose Mastering, Netherlands.

Same goes for this one, except mastered by Masterdisk, NYC, USA:
Bohem Na drugem bregu - YouTube

N-joy, if U will.

Tnx, much appreciated...

The band is great, songwriting/playing/singer, which of course doesn't hurt, either, eh eh!

It was mastered by Jeffrey @ Da Goose Music, Holland - wonderful guy to work with, great gear, great ear.

Any tech/gear questions & curiosities, r.e. tracking or the mix, feel free to ask.

The Jade, Jade-S and Sapphire Consoles were pretty expensive in the 1990's and certainly serious consoles in the Medium End Spectrum, I.E Under 150K$

VCA
Dynamics
Full Bussing Scheme
Great sounding Eq

Great Console !
