3 mics to record 1 man ?

Hi guys,

I've just watched the new video teaser of Fritz Kalkbrenner, I really like that kind of voice, and in this video they show the studio session and we can see that they used 3 mics (which apparently look the same).

So my question is simple, why 3 mics ??

Have a nice day !

yeah, they aren't multi micing him or anything. They are not going to use all 3 of them in the end, just going to pick the one they think works best with his voice. So they can make an informed decision AFTER recording instead of being stuck with the sound they get from a quick mic shoot before recording. Seems like a good idea.

I tend to use this setup with 2 microphones for vocals, one goes clean and one goes via 2253 or some other compressor/limiter suited for tracking.
