Splitting my all-in-one speaker cabs

My band are using speaker cabs that have the hi mid and low all in one. I was thinking of building speaker cabs to seperate the high and mid from the low. How hard would this be as there is only one speaker connection? im not to sure what i would need to do with the crossovers and stuff??

Use an electronic cross over and have three seperate amps for each speaker - High, Mid and low. Lows need more power.

Why not have seperate subs on the floor, and only suspend the mid and hi speakers? Or just stack them.
