New Grizzly Bear - Shields!

Grizzly bear's new record comes out tomorrow but you can listen to it on NPR.

First Listen: Grizzly Bear, 'Shields' : NPR

This has to be one of the best albums of 2012. (my opinion) I think Michael Brauer mixed the record judging by pictures on pitchfork.

Update: Grizzly Bear | Features | Pitchfork

Does anybody know if this one was self-produced like veckatimest?

Also, does anybody know if it was tracked to tape like veckatimest? It sounds colored, but I don't think it sounds very much like tape.

Give it a listen. The tones are lovely.

Hey Spencer,

This one was was band-produced like the last two albums, with Chris Taylor taking the head roles of producer and engineer. He then went to Brauer with the band and handed off the mixes he had so far for Brauer to polish. I do not believe that Veckatimest was tracked to tape, but I do think that it was mastered to tape at the end.

I love the new album as well, and very interested in seeing if there will be any b-sides that make their way out. If anybody has any insight on the recording methods or gear CT used I'd be interested to discuss!

Loving the musical aspect of this album as much as the last. Not as hot on the sound. Still great but it doesn't seem to "suck me in" with its depth. It actually pushes me back tonally on some tracks. A little more harsh and less analog feeling overall. Feels a bit overcompressed considering what they were able to do on the last album. Its not going to stop me from loving the album though! One of my favourite bands.

Oh fun. I stumbled across the last Grizzly Bear album as a "You might also like..." suggestion when I was buying the Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix album. Loved it.

Struck me as very vocally and musically reminiscent of an old semi-obscure California band, called Daniel Amos, during one of their 80s and 90s art rock phases (one of many, many wide-ranging phases). Vocalist was such a dead ringer I actually checked the liner notes to see if there was any connection.

This is a very descent album.
I think Brauer did a great job at mixing this record.

Record sounds great...But the album really gets boring after the first three or four songs.

Gun shy is my favourite, it sounds amazing, the backing vox could be a bit softer though.

I'm a massive Gbear fan, but I think the mix is terrible on 2/3 tracks.

Some of the frequency's are horrific.
