Another gear purchase dilemma!

First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I have some money I plan to spend on gear (about £400 (or $650 I think)). What I originally planned to do was to buy some monitors (I've been mixing on headphones for ages). However, I now realise that I won't be able to put any acoustic treatment in my room for a while, if at all.
I can already tell that there may be some problems considering I get a fairly resonant reflection if I speak above normal talking volume.

Now, what I'm thinking is, should I lay off getting monitors until a future point when I can get some sort of acoustic treatment, or should I go ahead and get some anyway? I know how important acoustics can be and how they can muck up your mixes if you're in a poor room; but is it any better than headphones in this situation? (sorry for the newbie-ness here haha).
If I didn't get the monitors then I'd probably treat myself to a new guitar or mic or something.

Opinions, oh great and mighty gearslutz?

Monitors are a great step toward hearing what you are doing. I like the idea of moving blankets, drapes, furniture to absorb some reflexions. You obviously have some limitations but use what you can to make a better room. I vote monitors as a great move.
