This is actually the 2nd mic of 2. I'm yet to recieve this one.. I've cracked the one I have open but there is no signs of any manufactures stamps ect.. There isn't much to it in fact. I'll photograph it tommorrow (opened up) and post back..
As for being Australian... I get the feeling no but I can't be sure.
Stay tuned.

I got it from a guy on eBay!!! Hey is a lovely dude and told me that it came from a mate of his who was in the game in the 50's or 60's.. He didn't know too much else about it. He contacted me a few days after that and offered me another one!! (the one in the 1st pic.) I snapped it up but assured him I'd do my best to get some info on it. He has been the nicest guy I've ever had dealings with on crapBay.
I'll have to get it looked at by someone local.
I'm stoked I got a pair!! (just hope they sound cool!!!)

It looks a little bit like Lustraphone or Reslo ribbon mics from some pictures I've seen, although not identical.

Thanks for your help Slutz!! I've been talking to a guy here who's in the know about ribbons and he's way of thinking is,,, it's a Reslo pencil mic that was 're' badged for us 'Aussies' some time LOOoooog ago. As for the outer metal case.. He's not see it before.
It should be back up and running in the next week or so.
I'm really eager to hear how they sound!!
As for the connection Acoustic Cloud.. it's a 3 pin connector that I haven't seen before.

The microphone is a "Film Industries M8" ribbon mic. There were a few re-branded as Reslo, but they are not Reslos. The Reslo pencil mic is different.

It is fig. of 8 in pattern. Most likely 30 Ohms output impedance.

You will not find a suitable connector. It is not found on any other microphones I know of other than "Trix" microphones which are very rare.

I fitted a Lemo connector to one of mine as I was running short of cables.

I have around 5 or 6 of them. I liked it on Jazz electric guitar.

It may look slightly similar to the (rare) Reslo pencil mic, but it is different - they are different brands.

For a start, the Film Industries models are better quality.

Hi, in my experience (of re-ribboning and generally messing about with ribbon mics) the Film Industries models have better build quality in that they are more solid and accurately machined (back in the 50's!). Also, they are in my opinion, better designed acoustically and have had more thought put into them.

At te end of the day, just try it out and see what you think. Watch out for corroded / old ribbons, They should be shiny-ish and have even corrugations.

Here are a couple of pics of one of mine:

Just to resurrect this thread, i have one of these and am wondering what it is worth? Mine has the full body, and original gooseneck too. Mine too was given to me by a friend's grandad that was "in the game" back in the 50/60's!

Lovely sound when i used it years ago. Built like a tank!

You can check recent ebay auctions for an estimate of the price, they sell relatively well, similarly to Reslo microphones.

Some of these mics have some green glass fiber in the back of the microphone, between the magnets. I think that tries to make the pickup pattern more cardioid. If you remove this green fiber, the microphone will have a more 8-figure pickup pattern and will have a much stronger bass response.

I did this to mine (mine is rebadged Trix, by the way), although I did keep the green fiber just in case I ever want to go back to cardioid-ish...

Thanks Santiago! Been a while since i've taken it apart, i should have a look with that info in mind.
Now trying to figure out how to search ebay's recent listings, can't for the life of me find it (they've either moved that option or i'm being thick)

EDIT: Found it. Was the thick option.

Hi, glad I could help!

I should add that I like this humble microphone a lot. It is fairly unknown and is actually very decent. Mine has a good signal to noise ratio and ok output for a ribbon, so it can be used for fairly quiet sound sources. I like it particularlyfor recording guitar amps, drums, tuned percussion (glockenspiel, toy piano) and mandolin.

Yes, it should be the same microphone, Mine is a different model, the Trix G7823, but it looks exactly like the one in the link and the the Film Industries M8. The connector is similar to the Reslo connector, but far smaller.

Regards,

Santiago
