Will Vintage30 handle 60W amp?

I have Sovtek MIG-60 tube amp and there is na option for me to buy 1x12 cab for it loaded with Celestion Vintage30 speaker. Will it handle MIG-60? Some people say to me it’s ok, since Vintage 30 can endure wattage peaks up to 100W. But one tech said to me that fully cranked 60W amp would wear out the speaker much sooner. Any comments? Thanks.

Unless you're diming the amp all the time, I wouldn't sweat it. And if you are going to dime it full time, I'd be more concerned with going thru gobs of power tubes and output transformers than the speaker...

I don't remember the output, but I used a MIG as a backup on tour. My cabs all have vintage 30's and I remember diming that think into the cabs the few times I used it. 'course, that was a 4x12.

Back in the day I had a Boogie MKII with 60 watts and I only ever used it with one greenback. It was killer.

BTW, I like those MIGs. They don't have a thousand sounds, but the sound they make is pretty damn rockin.

Just use your head/ears and you should be fine.

I can attest that the Vintage 30 will take the full 60wrms/continuous that it is rated for, for hours at a stretch without any evident ill effects. And 60wrms through a Vintage 30 is a lot louder than 60w through most other speakers (they are 100db 1w, 1m).

I haven't used the MIG-60, so I don't know whether it is conservatively rated (ie actually routinely delivers more than its rated 60w output power when it dimes). But unless you manage to exceed 60w continuously for sustained periods (ie more than just the occasional transient peak), you should have nothing to worry about.

I run a 100 Mesa Dual Recto into a 1x12 for recording. I crank it pretty loud, and the speaker has held up great.
