Studer A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder Plug-In

I run a:

Vintech 1073
Distressor
UA 6176
Drawmer 1960
Art Mpa II
Art Vla II

Through LOGIC (by way of a Echo Audiofire8). I love the recordings I get.

I'm always searching for more vintage warm sounds while still using my LOGIC. I wanted to see if it was possible to run my system through this:

Yes, but you need to buy additional gear to make this happen You will need an interface from UAD. Read the Features & Specs tab on the link you posted.

I know about the additional interface That I'll need. I just wanted to confirm with y'all that I indeed could run:

my onboard gear through LOGIC (via the echo audiofire8) and then into this "Studer A800 Multichannel tape recorder plug-in" (with the additional UA interface that is required). I just want to be absolutely sure

This is possible?

Thanks Mucho

I am using this plug in with Logic as I write this. And yes, it does indeed sound very good!

killer

two questions:

First question,

what UA interface do you use?

Second question,

What is the best way to hook up the UA interface since I already have my Echo Audiofire8 (for my outboard pre's and compressors) running through my firewire jack on my computer?

FYI- I own a MacBook Pro Laptop

also:

since I already have all the pre amps and compressors (outboard gear) that I need right now, Do I even need the UA firewire interface to run just the "Studer A800 Plug-In"?

I don't think I may even need that UAD-2 interface since I have all my outboard pre's and compressors running through my Echo Audiofire8.

Thoughts?

You MUST have a UAD card

I use a Satellite Quad. My MacBook Pro has the Express card slot and I use a Firewire card for the extra Firewire inputs.

So, are you saying that I can hook up the UA interface through the Express card slot?

also,

my computer has a quad core processor, can I use just the Dual Core UA interface or do I need to use the Quad Core UA interface?

thanks

gotcha, you access more firewire inputs by using a firewire card. Thanks

Can I use the Dual UAD-2 or do I have to use the Quad?

You can use the dual or quad. The processing power is in the UAD device.

Yes, use whatever you require in terms of processing power. If you google UA instance chart, you can see how many instances of all the plugins you can run on different uad2 cards. I've just got into the uad platform and have got the duo, but I don't generally work with more than. 15-20 tracks and am quite happy to print the fx to regain dsp power.

Thanks,

On the uad-2 Duo processor, How many "instances" max out one of the processors?

UAD Instance Chart

I read that the uad-2 satellite duo and quad processors (for laptops), max out at 77 instances stereo and 152 instances mono.

Is that per processor (meaning you would times this by 4 for the quad version)?

also

the Studer A800 plug-In takes 20 instances for mono and 12 instances for stereo.

my question is: Does that mean (when working in stereo on a particular song) that each track you assign the studer A800 plug-in to, it will take up 12 instances Per Track or will it just take up 12 instances Per Song no matter how many tracks you assign it to?

has enough umph to run both the Studer A800 plug-in and the Ampex atr 102 plug-in?

thanks
