spx90, spx2000

hi, i just picked up an old SPX-90.
sounds pretty cool, not too clean, not too noisy.

is this a safe bet, unit being so old and all,

or is it wiser to invest in the newer spx2000?

are these spx-90's prone to dying?

I think spx 90's are like Toyotas; you can't really kill 'em.

But I remember that they had more high end noise than they had high end effect. But what the hell, if you think it sounds good, what else could matter?

Man, just think, that's some mid-eighties digital technology. Most of us don't have cars that old!

thing is, the store let me try it out for a few days.
but they charged $225 CDN for it.
i'm thinking that's a little too high actually.

also the internal battery is dead
so i have to handscroll the settings in everytime,
every power up, every preset change.

What's $225 Canadian in US dollars? Like $175 or something around that? Not really too far off, but still high. But they should install a fresh battery for that price, make that part of the deal if you keep it.

There seems to be a solid market for these old SPX90's and 90II's on eBay. The 90II's often go for nearly as much as an SPX900.

Yeah, that's too much. In 1990 I got two of 'em for a pair of SM58's. And I had to think about it for a couple of minutes. I mean, 58's are always useable.

It's got the Trevor Rabin 90125 guitar harmony sound. 'Cause I know I need that sound every day. ahem.

yeah i'm gonna return the spx90 for sure.

this leaves me with the old dilemma...

go for the spx2000 or an eclipse.

with Eventide route, i'm thinking hold off for now,
then spring for a higher end unit later.
i ordered an eclipse for a few days then returned it...

so i'm seriously considering spx2000 now.
sorry to hijack my own thread

The 2000 is different - really better. Never liked the 90, 900, 990 or 1000 but the 2000 is really good. Probably the best effect in the 1000 € class. I wouldn´t give a cent for the 90.
