AD8000 vs Rosetta (.wav samples inside)

I recently switched A/D's from the original Rosetta to the original AD8000. Since I was curious how they compared, I did a test and recorded a demo sequence from one of my synths. Check out the attached samples. I will disclose which was which a bit later. (Note: before making comparisons, please make sure the levels are even.)

Curious to see which sample folks here prefer.

Listening to both of them, I think #2 sounds way more tighter timing wise and just feels "right". It's also got a more solid mid-range. I prefer #2, whatever it is. Could you send me a Private Message if you want to keep the suspense a little longer to let me know which one is which is which?

My vote is definitely for #2.

Number 1 sounds like it has a bit more extension in the bass. It feels fuller and slightly warmer. I found number 2 to be more solid in the upper mids, but lacking in overall fullness.

Honestly though, the difference is soooooo small it couldn't be worth the upgrade. Converters, to me, after a certain quality level, are just that little bit of gold leaf you put on, at the end, to really make it shine.

Just so you know I'm listening on Event ASP8s, through my fireface, in a realtraps treated studio.

I would like to know the answer though. Please PM me.

edit: I didn't realise that it was the original Rosetta. Oh well.

Hoping to get a few more responses before I spill the beans. BTW, I can even hear the differences on my built-in mac speaker.

no. 2 sounds louder. i tried to even it out by dropping the volum on quicktime for no. 2 so it was closer to no. 1 i'm only using headphone. i think that making the levels sound equal makes it a lot harder to tell. of course the first response has either tricked my brain into thinking that no.2 has a sweeter midrange or it really does.

Yeah, they are calibrated differently, so it is important to even the levels. (I assumed everyone here would import them into their DAW's)

If you even levels in your DAW then the test should still be valid.

Well, sample 1 is the AD8000. I actually prefer the Rosetta-- it seems to have better definition and a tighter bass. This puts me in a weird position since I just bought the AD8000 as an "upgrade".
