considering that, in this day and age, STILL, a 57 and a good mic pre is pretty hard to beat for mic'ing an amp, the baby bottle is a very potent choice for that application. and the fact that it also does it at a competitive price point (not so much that it costs, in reality, 5x as much as a 57, but the fact that the gap between said 57 and what you'd spend for a "real" quality mic, using fmr's "best sounding stereo compressor for under $2000 as an analogy), make it almost a must for a mic collection with budget restraints. it definitely qualifies as a 2nd "flavour" for electric guitar. i've only had the opportunity to use it with a trident signature1 so far, which is a semi-transparent pre, and it has all been VERY usable. especially for a slightly driven "jimi" through a neck pickup blues sound.. it's a bit tubier sounding than a 57. due to the fact that it has a quite tight proximity response that borders on hyper-cardioid, and a pronounced warmth, or bump, in the mids, it wouldn't really qualify as a choice for vocals, though having said that, it is an interesting choice for hip hop vocals. i''ll be very interested to give it a try on violin in the next week or two; i'll post an update when i do. now that i have my speck m-72 console up & running, i'll also be giving it a go, with guitar again, through the console's mic pre's, which have jensen mic input trannies. as the mic is so warm sounding, i'll be curious to see how it sounds through a "coloured" pre.. something tells me, from advance reports, that the baby bottle'd probably sound killer through the new "rnp"! how 'bout it, jay? ya got the "babe;" got an rnp on the way?
