1968 or 160SL... looking for diversity here folks

What would be your first go to if it was your 2 Buss and vocal comp. I am almost done with B suite (posting pics soon) and need 2 more channels of compression. (I have a pair of distressors in there as well and a LA3). Thanks guys!

I too am in the market for a nice 2 buss comp.
I currently have two distressors which are great.
I think i need something a bit creamier though for the 2 bus.
I've heard really good things about the Vari Mu.
and Api 2500 and Purple both get high marks.
good luck!

I have 160SL that I bought for 2bus and vocal duties. I still use it on vox quite a bit. As far as 2 bus, I kind of stopped using any compression on the 2 bus....just wasn't getting the results I wanted. Maybe I wasn't doing something right.

On the past few mixes I've done, I've been playing with the 160SL on 2 bus to try and get something I like. The settings I've liked have been the very subtle ones, 2:1 or 2.5:1 ratios where I'm only kissing the GR. I never really use the Limiter function. Anyone using that part of the 160?

I've seen quite bit of talk lately about the 1968. I'd be interested to hear some comments from someone who has both the 1968 and the 160SL or has heard them side by side. I'm guessing they are completely different animals.

I do like the 160SL, it won't be leaving my rack anytime soon, I can just see myself exploring some different uses for it.

I got the 1968 for the 2 buss after returning an API 2500. I like it a lot. I don't LOVE the color, or the vibe of it (Like the Chandler stuff etc), but it works GREAT for what I need. How much are you really going to compress the 2 buss anyway? And do you really want color on the 2 buss? The thing works, and works great. The way I figured it, for the money, you can't go wrong with the 1968. Good luck.

If posted about my opinions on both in the past.

In general i've never owned a mixbuss comp that would be my first choice for tracking vocals.

I prefer the single channel units for that.

With the Distressors my personal opinion is you need some character pieces.

I'd use the LA-3A on the vocals and leave the 160SL on the mix.

I really like the 160sl for tracking vocals. When mixing I like it on guitar sub or bg sub. Don't much care for it on the mix bus though.
