Can only afford one : Rosetta 800 vs Lavry Blue

Yes I have done a search ... but I'm interested In what people think ....

Please help me make a hard choice .... I have a 002R based home studio and have

finally got $3k USD together to upgrade my AD-DA ... do I ....

get an APOGEE Rosetta 800 192k ... this open's the door for summing etc. .. or get a

Lavry Blue 2 AD-DA ... and marvel at the great sonics , but only have two channels ..

Is the difference in the " quality " of these converters really that far apart ?

Unfortunately , because of where I live there will be no way for me to audition either

unit .... so I really have no idea how either box sounds !

They both look cool on paper , but well ..... you know that means ... nothing really ...

Thanks ......heh heh

Maybe get one of each, check them out in your room and make an educated decision? ...I'm no genius but that seems like a more pragmatic approach than asking people you've never met to render production tool opinions for product they've never heard.

Just one asshole's opinion... but hey, we've never met so that could be the Gearslutz way

Best of luck with your search

Hey Fletcher .. unfortunately I live in New Zealand and their is not a Lavry Dealer here ,

I do know the importers of apogee here , and I have not asked them if they have a

Rosetta 800 in stock , mmmm maybe I should ... but I guess the thing is It doesn't

look like I can get the two units in the same room at the same time ...

did I mention that I live in the southern most city in the world ...

sure is blowing a real heavy gale outside tonight ...

What would you do ... dig your posts BTW ... next time in LA .. ( could be a while )

I'll buy you beer .. or something stronger .. if you like ... heh

For that price, why not consider the Lynx Aurora 8 or even 16?

really?
people are liking the aurora better than the rosetta?

looks like the 8 channel aurora is a little cheaper than the rosetta 800.

that it would be great if it was cheaper AND sounded better, I've been thinking about the rosetta 800.

who has done the A/Bing?

Doesn't most of the decision depend on how many tracks at once you usually record?

i too think you might be better off with a aurora 8. the 16 is nice to have but the 002 is limited to 8ch though adat and only up to 48khz
so the aurora 8 would be the number 1 thing to go for imo. its a drastic difference in sound vs the 002(yea i did own a 002R)

you can get the aurora as low as 1700. the cables for it should be around $250
2 dsub( 1 female , 1 male)
2 litepipe cables(adat out and in)

i have apogee conversion right now. its an older unit for the soundscape systems the (apogee 896 I/O) and though it sounds great it wasn't as clean and detailed as the rosetta when i tried it out. the rosetta didn't quite sound as good as the aurora IMO but did have more lowend and midlows were a tad thicker(maybe the mix) so i choose the aurora 8. i'ma order one for my birthday.. something to myself
